"If they want to mock us, I'm telling them it's not over. It will never be over here. It's just starting." - Mark Dantonio, 2007
Agree on the recruiting however disagree on DC hire. He will just promote someome from within (who knows if they are ready).
Recruiting should be a big worry here. Narduzzi was carrying the load for the staff while Roushar bumbled his way through meetings and generally fucked things up. With Narduzzi gone, Dantonio will have to turn to Roushar to try and bring in the big guns = total failure
Ironically enough, Roushar has done some good recruiting.
That said, Narduzzi is a "name," he'll be contacted about just about every opening. It's what you want from a coaching staff.
And with that, dude is passionate about his team. You could see how he was after losses. I think he stays, he's loyal and already went through the ringer of emotions last year with a&m. I can see him being the next to take over MSU.
Unlikely. The reason Bielema left, and the reason Chryst took to assistants with him to be his coordinators is all about $$$$$. Wisconsin was underpaying their assistants, and Bielema didn't want to continue to lose talent. It's one thing to lose coaches to MAC HC jobs, it's another to lose your position coaches to other assistant jobs.
Treadwell didn't take anyone with him.
Who would Narduzzi hypothetically take anyways? Tressel or Barnett? I just don't see that happening. He can't give them raises.
I guess he could take Salem, but that would probably require money or a package deal with his older brother (Illinois Assistant).
If Narduzzi does leave for Cincinnati, I'd consider Josh Rouse and Kevin Pickelman (our Grad Assts. and the kind of players you want as coaches) gone. He could also take Haygood from Miami (he's currently an intern, but was SVSU's WR/ST coach).
I'd expect at least 2 assistant coaches to go with Narduzzi. If Narduzzi leaves, I'd also expect to see Mike Tressel as the DC in his place.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
To answer the thread title...It's the wild wild women, the rippin and the tearing
At least? I could see him taking 2 guys to be his coordinators, but who would take the same job they have to come with him? I don't see it as a certainty that he would be able to take 2 guys with him. Pay and job security do matter to assistants. I guess Staten is an Ohio guy.
@BFeldmanCBS With Butch Jones leaving Cincy, expect Mich St DC (& former UC DC) Pat Narduzzi to get the first call abt Bearcats vacancy.
These are serious questions:
Will MSU offer Narduzzi more money to stay? Is it true we have more money because of BTN? If so, shouldn't we be able to afford giving him more?
+1 for the League reference.
Sorry Rock I think you are forgetting something that the coaches said before when Tread/Enos left.
One deal that each coach has with Coach D is that if a head coach position opens up and its the right opportunity that Coach D wont begrudge the move but will support it Izzo style. The caveat mentioned before is that they weren't supposed to raid the staff.
I think Coach D has a good enough relationship and respect from his staff that the likely scenario will be similar to when Tread left and we give grad assistants the chance to move up the coaching ranks.
Now dont get me wrong if Roushar were to..... ok getting ahead of myself.
Do you guys think Fickell would consider MSU? Isn't he a co-DC at OSU? Would you want Fickel? I'm not sure he'd know what do to at a place other than OSU, however.
At any rate, I'm really concerned about recruiting if Narduzzi leaves and takes Tressel. Effectively, we'd be down to one defensive recruiter (Barnett). Gill is dead weight on the recruiting trail. I understand he doesn't like to recruit (I could be wrong).
No DC/AHC raise/title change will come close to HC money at an AQ school. He gone.
Could we even afford him? What's he getting paid now?
I've read many people close to the program think Barnett would be the DC.
I'd love to hear your reasoning on this. Why would assistants take a pay cut and go to a lesser program? At the rate our coordinators are getting head coaching jobs, if they stick at MSU they are pretty much guaranteed to be a coordinator here within a few years.
Fickell makes 750K, how are we gonna pay him
Haha dream on, Fickell is entrenched at OSU until he gets a head coaching gig. They pay that man a lot of money I believe.
I'm sure that Coach D will promote from within (perhaps Tressell). The big thing is that we need to start bringing some recruiters to this staff, as in guys that are known as recruiters. Narduzzi leaving will create a big hole in that regard, and the 2014 class NEEDS to be a big one with the neighborhood getting tougher now.
That would be an interesting move. I always thought Tressel was the next in line. He seems like a great coach and he is one heck of a recruiter.
Fickell makes $750K/year last I heard. Narduzzi's at $500K. If MSU is going to pay that $$ to Fickell, they're better off offering to Narduzzi first.
Agree and as I mentioned before, that is what worries me, recruiting.
Only way I would take Fickell is as a recruiter BUT Coach D isn't going to add a recruit first coach he wants a coach first recruiter second however it's up to debate if that's good or bad..
Mike Tressel is the next DC is waiting, imo.
Who's saying they'd take a pay-cut? He'd take an OC and a DC to work under him; the position coaches don't make even make $200K. I was thinking "2 assistant coaches + grad assistants" when I said "at least 2 assistant coaches", not "he may take 2 or more assistant coaches".
