No way. I think he wants three or four titles. Regardless, he's not retiring for a while even if we win the title this year.
Izzo won't announce his retirement pre-season nor mid-season. That's not his style.
His last season will probably be the same as coach k. The difference being that coach k will announce it before the season so espn can have a season long celebration. Izzo will quietly bow out after an elite eight or better finish
Maybe so but don't be so sure.
So, you're talking about yourself?
I don't know that he will wait for that long, but I definitely think he wants to enjoy the benefits of having that second title in recruiting.
I would pay zero dollars. Nobody seeing me cry at some grown man's retirement. That's something I'll do in the privacy of my own home. And after tonite, it'll be something I do in the privacy of my own condo. I'm really pissed at the house tonite. Ready to 'retire' it.

We will win another natty and there will be a pep rally afterwards, like there always is when we go to a final four. They raise the banners etc, the place is full or close to it. Izzo will announce his retirement and kiss the S at this post-natty pep rally, but not until the end, after the team has gotten ample attention themselves first.
If Izzo is announcing at a pep rally for a final four, and word is out, it cannot be in the Brez. No way. It would have to be at the football field. I can see tailgating for it even. I bet 50 thousand people would want to go.
His final game will be a national title game, so whatever the price is on those.
Also, the level of insanity will be off the charts in East Lansing. The entire marching band parading to his house, a statue being built next to Bill Russell, Cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria!
so if we win this year do you think he would step down? I dont think he would care if it was a national title game....I can see him saying he is done after the year and naming his successor. Then a party is held at spartan stadium where we all cry for an hour and then party like hell while they show a 3 hour montage of his success
To die in ann arbor is redundant
When you guys talk like this it makes me sad.
Izzo will never retire. He's immortal.
I don't know how much three Grateful Dead T-shirts, a pair of Jorts, sandals, an incense burner and a beat up mountain bike would bring in.
I was lucky enough to be a student for Jud's last game. Great experience with the ceremony afterwards. So was the Jud's All Star game that summer which featured a scoring duel between Magic and Smitty.

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
I agree. It would have to be an "event". A huge effin' tailgate and speech, with all of his former and present players there, and it would culminate with a big god damned statue of the King - bigger than that one of Saddam Hussein that was torn down with ropes. Like as tall as the smoke stacks that used to stand next to the stadium. Then izzo would accept a job with the football team as D Backs coach or something like that. Can't get more awesome than that.
If Izzo wins this year I don't think he's retiring unless 3 guys bolt for the NBA because he could easily win it next year too.
I would like the statue to be animated.
It's dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. But you quoted ghostbusters, so +1.
Can't remember exactly who said it (think it may have been Jack Ebling) but they thought if Izzo won the title in 09 or 10 he would have retired right then and there.
Izzo wouldn't retire and leave the program reeling like that.
But are we elite yet?
