fell into the toilet this hard? We went from really good in both to really questionable. Basketball is too early to really tell but there are some glaring issues (ballhandling, shooting, defense, inexperience).
Mid 90's? (End of Jud's reign and Perles debacle)
Early 2000's (After Flinstones left but before 2005 FF/Preseason Hype and Bobby/JLS)
We're going to be good again but damn, these are not good times to be a Spartan. The difference seems to be coaching. At the top we have the leaders to do it just MD has to be willing to do something he's never done before.

basketball has played 1 game and you are declaring them in the toilet already?

I actually think we win our last two Big Ten games and I think we'll contend for the Big Ten championship in bball.
It's really not that bad...
Given the youth and schedule... we're going to struggle to get to 18-20 wins.
Dude come on. No offense, but this is retarded. Basketball starts slow every year and gets better every week. You would think people would realize this by now and not overreact to fucking Exhibition games and a close loss in the season opener to good program.
If the team is sucking eggs in January and February start a thread then.
Knibb High football rules
I'm so sick of the "But the football team has only lost 4 games by a total of 10 points" crap. This was a team that was supposed to be a conference favorite and darkhorse NC contender.
Basketball did not look good over an opponent that they should have beaten. Rip Hamilton, Ray Allen and Okafor were not walking though that door. UCONN has 2 good players and one finished the game on a gimpy ankle. Got outplayed, got clowned, on national television, again.
You're overreacting. Just FYI.
Football is a rebuilding year and was all along except no one told us until it was painfully obvious. Then the slappys pushing sunshine congratulated themselves as this is a proof point of what all programs go through.
Probably so but it seems to be the SOS thing, just remastered for a different year.
Ball So Hard State University is back to being Charlie Brown State University.
Well said. Here here.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
Into the toilet? ONE GAME, neutral site, good opponent, and a single digit point difference??
Uconn has 3 good players. Maybe people should go look at that Daniels dude rankings. He is ranked higher out of high school than most of the Spartans players. This dude hurt us early with Payne and Byrd guarding him, until Izzo put Dawson on him. Basketball is still a game of match ups. Izzo starting Payne and Nix together did a team still searching for an identity, no favors.
You do understand that UCONN has a rookie coach, taking over a program on probation and several new players who are not as heralded as their predecessors. This is not one of their better teams. That would be like saying, if we lost to UCLA, "Hey, they are one of the greatest programs of all time, so what?" Kareem and Bill Walton had nothing to do with it. This was a winnable game.
Well said. Amen brother. Vgd getting crucified by the slappies. I hate them.
Great thread. You guys have fun bashing both programs, good for you. I will check back later to see what else sucks.
Yup, I forgot...
ALL OF OUR GOALS ARE STILL IN FRONT OF US
WE PLAY A HARD SCHEDULE, ANYTIME, ANYWHERE
Tanfan is agreeing with you, that doesn't bode well.
It's one freaking loss. Yes, it was disappointing. Yes, it was a team who we should have beaten handily. But to say that the team will struggle to get to 18-20 wins based on one performance is a huge stretch. It's a young team, but the youngsters are DAMN GOOD. It's a ridiculously talented group of freshmen and sophomores. I expect a few growing pains like we saw on Friday night, but when they put it together (and they WILL put it together), this team will be incredibly difficult to play.
Sounds like you're ready to push the panic button after just one game, not cool given what Izzo shows us every single season.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
Izzo teams always suck in November but then nobody remembers when they win the National Championship every year.
What is they point of being a fan of this is how you're going to react when things don't go your way? It can't be enjoyable.
Scrap both programs.
Go fuck yourself. You are a horrible fan.
You're a fucking idiot.
This place is has crossed into looneyville.
Long ago, but it's really far gone now.
