It's because many (not all as evident by the rankings) know that MSU plays tough schedules...and we're seen on TV a lot.
The rest who vote just sort of look at the records and realize that we lost 3 in a row on TV.
Remember, a lot of those "bad losses" that every team outside of MSU in the top ten took were either not on National TV, or ignored on TV. I don't think the people carved out time to watch Michigan v. PSU, or Kansas v. TCU...but you know they were watching Michigan State v. Ohio State. Casual "voters" who looked at this week's results probably do not remember who was beaten, who lost to who beyond a week...they just see that "5" and that "7" and assume.
Said this multiple times before, but why not again? We constantly bashed scUM for caring about their ranking when they got to #1, yet people are flipping a shit that we're not higher? I understand that this may play into the seeds a little bit, but after the BTT, these rankings won't mean shit.
UofM barely beats Purdue and loses to IU at home and moves up. Kansas gets crushed by over twenty and still stays in the top 7 and IU who has arguably the best group of wins all year (@UofM, @MSU, @OSU) doesn't even get one first place vote yet Gonzaga who has no RPI top 20 wins and a SOS in 100s gets 54 first places votes. Give me a ballot... I can throw some darts at a wall.
I'd love to know how many of the 65 AP voters have actually watched a full Gonzaga game, not so much because I don't think they deserve it, but because I want to know exactly how informed the voters are.
I actually see it as basically the same. We were bashing SCum for thinking so highly of themselves for being rates #1 for a week, and now we are bashing those doing the ranking for not knowing what they are doing. Same premise, different week. Rankers down know shit.......DUH
A Spartan Today, A SPARTAN FOREVER. Through thick and thin, low and high water I strive to be the best Spartan ever.
Last I checked it takes 6 wins for any team in the tourney to be champs. Really a top 3-4 seed is all I can hope for to get close home court. We have that. Otherwise you still have to play great teams to advance. Beauty of a tournament style and not BCS.
AP Poll is an absolute joke
RPI is what they look at. So, we are #5.
