And by greatest I mean by any criteria you consider to represent what the greatest Spartan means.
I would nominate, from my lifetime:

Of course, I'm biased.

John Hannah and its not even close. Without Hannah none of the others listed are even in play.

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
...my list is obviusly biased towards athletics, but you are right Hannah even created that.

I agree with this, but did he actually attend MSU(MAC)? I'm trying to be delicate with this, but is it "different" if you were an actual student? Obviously, strong bonds can be formed as adults, but that time between 18ish & 22ish is something else. I'd say Mateen gets a bonus for doing the whole 4 years and getting a degree.

So the greatest Spartan is from althetics?
Didn't say that. Just giving examples. Already ready said I believe it's Hannah.
Are there any other statues on campus besides Hannah & Magic?

It's hard to argue with Biggie or Duffy's accolades. Magic is most recognizable and Izzo, is a beyond legendary.

Another vote for Hannah here.
Plenty of schools can claim great athletes. Far fewer can claim somebody like John Hannah.
tRCMB - Visit at your own risk of being disgusted.
I heard it was blanch as he's solely responsible for the success of tRCMB
Magic. I'm afraid without him we are gopher or hawkeye level Mateen is a close second.
Izzo with no Mateen could have gotten ugly. Not fair but could have happened.
It's a town full of losers. I'm pulling out of here to win!

I nominate Steve Smith. Great Spartan and has given a ton BACK to MSU.
The moment is eternal
I have to agree with this, and of course Hannah. Smith is probably one of the best athletic representative of an University that ever lived. Dude is pure class and gives so much to the University.
