Sadly I have to agree. Anything but the best conditions and there are large swaths of empty seats.
I've always been very disappointed in our fan behavior/showings at the game. Not very loud, not very ... present ... in many situations.
naw...they'd go but with four losses and five unconvincing wins some will wonder if there isn't something better to do.
But I plan to be there to take in a Big Ten game. Always a great atmosphere, always fun. And if we win it'll be the first in the history of MSU over Nebraska.
Update on prices: $7 for Lower Corner Row 38
Things that are more expensive than these tickets:
A beer at a Tigers/Red Wings/Lions game
A ticket to the Iowa @ Indiana game
The gas it will cost me to get from Royal Oak to East Lansing (one way)
A tailgating spot at the tennis courts
Concourse seats at the MSU basketball exhibition game against the St. Cloud State Huskies
This is embarrassing...
Guess I dont completely understand it. I have been disappointed with this season but am excited for this one.
Sure I understand why they would be lower than you would expect for MSU vs Nebraska but not THIS low.
-Weather looks good for November, 46 and sunny with only a slight chance of a shower last I saw.
-Nebraska's first visit to Spartan Stadium since joining the Big Ten.
-We are coming off a good win.
-Havent had a home game in 3 weeks.
But these tickets prices are reminiscent of a 3rd non conference game of the year which starts at noon against Rhode Island Community College.
I know everyone hates the Student section, but isn't this just as bad? Hopefully Spartan fans end up snagging these tickets. Do not want to see a sea of red on Saturday even though I think that is a good possibility. Will be bringing it from the student section with 2 prospective MSU students as well.
Whatever happened to trying to will your team to victory? Seriously, MSU needs to be a top 10 team to pack the stadium??
Come on man, when you and I were students, MSU sold out something like 34 straight games. We packed the stadium for Bobby and JLS, but can't do the same for a guy who's brought MSU more success than anytime since 1970?
I said it before and I'll say it again: if the fans aren't willing to show up, why should they expect the players to? Pretty clear from last week that the players have not given up; sad to see that the fans have.
It's kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy. "OH, I didn't go to the Iowa game because the weather was crappy and besides, MSU lost anyways". Maybe just a modicum of homefield advantage would have turned that game around. You never know, but I do know that not filling the stadium is a sure way to drive off recruits and even coaches.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
I don't think MSU fans have ever had to prove anything to anyone.
I might agree with the argument that there are too many student section tickets or that ticket prices are too high, but the fan base is terrific--it's the team that stinks this year.
The fanbase couldn't fill half the stadium on homecoming, with the Spartans coming off a W and facing a divisional opponent in a game that MSU had to win to stay in the Big 10 race.
The correct answer is two-fold:
1. Alums live farther from Michigan now and don't want to travel to see the crappy offense
2. MSU has priced out the local non-MSU affiliated people with the high season ticket costs
I agree that the student section may have behaved badly in the Iowa game.
But it's equally true that they're not an acceptable scapegoat for 5-4. The crowd does not lose games we should win. The crowd didn't get blowout for the second straight year to ND at home under the lights.
This team stinks and LSU's fan base could not win them one more game.
I don't think I've ever read someone say how terrific a fan base is for not showing up and supporting their own team because they might have something better to do.
don't put words in my mouth.
It's pretty damn close to what you're implying.
All I'm saying is you can't use the crowd to scapegoat crappy play on the field.
It's the athletic department's job to fill the stadium.
I think Message Board Participants are some place between players playing and fans cheering.
Fans filtered out of the stadium against Iowa at THE BEGINNING OF OVERTIME.
Think home field advantage just might have helped in OVERTIME?!
I don't care what you think, that loss is just as much on the pathetic fan showing as it is on the players.
laconophilia is everywhere...
That's just because we were distracted by the ULTRAMEGAGODZILLATRON known as the south end scoreboard. The north end ones, being relatively microscopic, pose less of a distraction.
I think should have listed 3; here is the one you missed -
3. TV coverage...not that long ago not every game was broadcast on TV. Therefore you had to go to the game to actually see the game. Not true anymore; with the advent of the B1G network - you can now sit in front of your big screen HD tv, get beer from your fridge, not whizz in a trough, and post on this messageboard about how bad the team and fans are.
More excuses. Nebraska sells out every game. And will sell out half your stadium.
Sadly, the problems in Nebraska are in the coaching offices and the fans that sit in the seats and defend them.
Simple - nobody wants to watch their team score 10 points in a loss.
but we will beat your sorry ass don't get mad ok
Same 'Ole Spartan Fans
