Denzel Valentine played only 10 minutes tonight - less than half his season average.
Is it due to his offensive production being down the last few games?
Guessing it was just matchups.
Be interested to see if he gets more minutes at IU, which will be more uptempo.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Are you questioning Izzo?
Personally, I really like Valentine's game, but I noticed his scoring has dropped off recently.
I'm just messing with you .
Going with Dawson/ Payne/ and nix more now because it is the B1G and more smash mouthed style of play.
Also Harris is getting his minutes and appling is playing a lot.
I think what is really hurting him is defense. Harris plays tougher d.
I think part of it was the fact that we are seeing Payne and Nix on the floor at the same time more which pushes Dawson to the 3.
Maybe the missed dunk had something to do with it, even though it ended up as a "blessing in the skies"
When both bigs play at the same time Valentine is squeezed out. Then you have Harris and Dawson on the wings with Trice supporting. Plus I think Valentine has struggled defensively lately. But it also could have been just that Wiscy had off match ups for him. Could he check Evans?
Ask your son.
Freshman wall, Denzel will be fine.
dude been turning the ball over like crazy since the Big Ten season started.
I think that has a little to do with it
He hasn't been playing that well (Trice has been outplaying him), and we've actually done pretty well going "big" lately.
Nothing to worry about--he has hit a bit of a freshman wall but will still be a key contributor going forward.
I think it's mostly due to matchups. I could be mistaken but it didn't seem like Trice played his normal minutes either
Izzo is all about matchups. It also might have to do with playing on the road as a freshman.
I love Valentine's creativity. We are going to need his game before the season is over, but Wisconsin games are traditionally low scoring battles where each ball possession is of vital importance. We can't afford 15-20 turnovers and still win. . . we had 8 TOs tonight, and squeaked out the win. I think their is a method to Coach Izzo's madness.
seems like he is trying to do too much at times recently; forcing his game on offense more than B1G defenses will allow him to get away with.
exactly, this is what Izzo said in the game recap:
"They don't turn it over. I don't care who they're playing," said Izzo, whose team finished with 10 turnovers, one more than Wisconsin. "So we said we have to play like them in that respect. We wanted to run, but we wanted to be solid with the ball, and I think we did a good job of that."
OK, I get the whole matchup thing... but why does Byrd get minutes over Valentine and immediately turn the ball over twice along with 2 fouls. Valentine may not be perfect, but he can certainly offer more than that???
Banned 12/30/2010 - 1/7/2011 (for not believing in the power of prayer)
Nix, Payne, Dawson, Harris and Appling could each do 34 minutes. Trice and Guana 10 apiece and Valentine 10. Everyone of the 5 starters I mentioned can go off for a big game. The next three have been consistent backups.
The rest of the team still has to earn their PT, IMO.

Why are you such a douche? I'm just curious.
Msu had 10 turnovers for the game. Tough environment for a frosh. Denzel had zero turnovers in those 10 minutes. That will help earn Izzo's trust as much as a couple of no look passes.
Not a lot of offensive production for Harris either but I like that he was steady and didnt force bad plays.
It's all about Wisconsin. If you look at past seasons, freshman tend to struggle against Wisconsin. Dawson was terrible last year, Payne horrible the year before, and Nix barely saw the floor his freshman year against them. It's a weird system that Izzo wants to his freshman to see before having to major minutes against. I think it's a bigger deal that he gave Harris 32 minutes to Trice's 15.
That said, both Harris and Valentine really stepped up to the challenge. I would put good money down that Wisconsin doesn't beat us the rest of this season or at all next season. The returning crew has a good feel for them.
Izzo would only be a 3 Star coach here on tRCMB.
