This Drake Harris debacle is the perfect time to ask what I've never been able to figure out. Why in the world would someone find Dantonio a less attractive coach when compared to Hoke? What is he selling down there? Besides, Dantonio owns UM, and has had huge success at MSU. I know if I was a recruit, I'd find Dantonio's work under Saban and Tressel extremely valuable. Maybe Dantonio needs to advertise his relationship with Saban more.....
Honestly, no idea. I can't imagine what kind of bullshit Hoke must be peddling over there. The guy can barely string together a sentence without wheezing, yet somehow recruits are lining up for him? It's not unreasonable to think there's something shady going on there. They haven't been relevant in years.
Maybe they like to eat a lot. Hoke does?
They don't want to play for Hoke. They want to play for a mythical tradition that UM successfully sells to their recruits.
Harris will be the #1 guy the day he steps on the practice field in AA. All of the Rich Rod receivers will be gone by the time he gets there and WR is one position they have recruited terrible under Tits.
Harris would have had to take a back seat to AB for at least 2 years here and he wouldn't be rid of Madaris until he was a Sr.
Another kid who doesn't want to earn his spot and wants it handed to him before he gets to campus. (Jabari)
WE NEED NEW UNIFORMS UM HAS MATTE HELMETS MOAR PRO COMBATS GET ON IT MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoke is a good coach. Not a great coach but a good one. I know a lot of people clown on him for not wearing headphones but he has a good system and has a great staff. Downvote away
Well, then we need to do a better job of selling that we own UM in football and that Saban is Dantonio's best friend. We have a ton of upside at MSU and should be able to beat UM for recruits more than we have as of late. Dantonio needs to re-emphasize Izzo and Saban, and maybe start flashing his National Title ring a bit more.
Our stadium is a stupid impractical cereal bowl, but ITS BIG!!!!!
Greg Mattison is a good coach. Hoke is a good snake oil salesman.
Funny that the stadium is like the coach. Not much to either. Just big.
How do you define "haven't been relevant in years"?
No doubt the 3-year Rich Rod regime proved disastrous.
That said, we won a BCS bowl game two years ago. Last year, we were in the Top 25 most of the season, but ended up having a moderately disappointing year against a historically tough schedule. We figure to be very good this year.
I have far more respect for Jabari Parker than I do for Drake Harris. Jabari Parker may been spewing an obvious BS line about how he didn't want to get in the way of Branden Dawson, but Drake Harris flat out took a shit on MSU. I can't even imagine what Coach D is thinking after talking to Harris, being told that MSU still has a chance, being told that he is coming to the spring game and then hearing that Harris committed to scUM.
The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.
This...and don't forget the appeal of the "winged helmet" either. I just love it when one of their 4-5 star recruits says in public that he chose Michigan because he really likes the "winged helmet." What a deal closer.
"I love March!" - Tom Izzo
Certainly, Jabari seems like a good humble kid, he made a decision and stuck to it.
I just think they both chose the easy PT over competing for it.
For your sake, you'd better hope so. We had our worst offense last year perhaps in school history, and you still needed a final drive and last second FG to beat us at your house. Next year we get you at SS, and return perhaps an even better defense, and an offense that has nowhere to go but up. You'd better hope all that talent is really awesome really fast.
"RCMB: You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainry." - some dude from MgoBlog
As soon as Alphonso takes a pay cut and goes to the NBA, there was money in the cookie jar for Drake.
Not just a coincidence that both events happened on the same day.
That may be true. I'm just saying that Jabari Parker didn't crap all over MSU when he decided to commit elsewhere. Drake Harris pretty much wrote a book on how to be the biggest douche possible during the recruiting process.
By the way, did Drake have the balls this time to call Coach D himself and let him know?

The hype. The 110,000 seat stadium. The promise or implied promises of PT.
Like it or not Dantonio's teams aren't going to be confused with a flying circus with a pass happy offense. Don't think that DeAnthony Arnett's current situation went unmentioned in aa. At 6'4" /180 Harris would still be expected to block effectively or sit. I don't think the word sit exists in Hoke's vocabulary.
Dantonio's faults are being brutally honest and not promising PT.
Yep. He was pretty much dead to me after his decommit comments.
I think it's clear this particular recruit fell in love with the spotlight/attention/hype. UM is a better place for him if that is a priority.
What sort of names do you want to be called?
Only relevance "your" program has provided was the exposure of the previous BCS formula as a fraud.
They're selling a narrative in Ann Arbor. Reality doesn't matter.
Hoke recruits well but he also recruits a bunch of overrated players
This guy is supposed to be their savior and they call him the next peterson. If you watch the video, I don't see anything special about him

Speaking of Jabari, if Payne goes pro (which seems likely according to analysts), does Izzo call up Parker and try to pitch him again? Didn't Izzo say in his "final pitch" that regardless of where he chooses to go, they will remain in contact? And didn't Parker say "It's only a verbal...I'm not signing anything yet." A line up of Appling/Harris/Dawson/Parker/Costello with a bench of Trice/Valentine/Kaminski/Guana could be pretty lethal.
Talk about a pipe dream.
