And I couldn't disagree more. Manziel has better numbers this year than Cam Newton or Tim Tebow the years they won it. It shouldn't be close except for the ND slurping media and the unwritten dumbass rule that a freshman hasn't 'paid his dues' enough to win it. Please speculate:

If the Heisman trophy was given to players that overcame horrific personal tragedies, then Te'o would win it, but that's not what the trophy is given for.
Here's a good picture of him laying on his ass for reference:
"We'll play anyone, anyplace, anytime!" - Tom Izzo
True enough. I'm rewatching some of the TAMU/Bama game right now on espnu and Manziel is pretty awesome quite frankly. I look at him and then look at every qb in the Big Ten (minus Miller of O$U) and shake my head. The kid is so accurate it's ridiculous...18 yrs. old? They should win a NC or two with this kid. I thought it was suicide for them to join the $EC....not so much now.
......I'll also say again that ND can give Bama similar problems that TAMU did. Gholson can do some of the things Manziel can (NO not as good...but similar) More importantly the interior of ND's lines on both side of the ball can play physical enought go toe to toe. Only a handful of teams in the country can say that. However, Saban>Kelly.......................21-17 Bama.

No. The award is for the best player in football, and that player is Johnny football.
A nd player will always get consideration.
YOUR have been banned from reading and posting on the Michigan Wolverine board.
Holy crap I haven't seen that stat comparison anywhere D.Wags....unbelievable.
It's ND and it's what the media does. And those idiots on here who don't think there is a blue wall in our state are crazy too
He'll get enough votes because of the tragedies he has faced.
That shouldn't have anything to do with the award, but it will.
I feel horrible for him and wish him nothing but the best, however. He's a great football player, but shouldn't win the Heisman.
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
Do you Johnny football could win it twice in his career?
To die in ann arbor is redundant
compare Teo to Shazier from OSU this year. Except for ints, Shazier blows him out of the water. in fact, aside from ints, Teo and Max Bullough have very similar stats as well...of course one team went undefeated and the other 6-6, so I'm not trying to say Max should be a Heisman candidate, but Teo is not putting up some unimaginable stats.
Personally I have not seen this guy play but his stat line puts himself FAR above Te'o imho.
*** Sorry for the formatting 24/7 and ESPN having issues with spacing***
CMP ATT YDS TD INT
222 353 2962 24 5
ATT YDS AVG LNG TD
271 1771 6.5 88 19
Lead the nation in rushing from the QB position while having a great passing year as well. That is Jordan Lynch's Stat line. I know he is a MAC QB but when you put up those numbers its hard to go against that imho.

Te'o isn't even the best defensive player in the country. Why should he be the first defensive player to win the Heisman.
If you ask me to start a defense with Te'o or Bullough, I'd take Bullough without hesitation.
Clowney is the best player in football. Jarvis Jones is probably 2nd best. Then Manti Te'o.
If we're naming best players in college football, Mariota is a better player than Manziel. He just happens to have 2 of the best RBs in the nation, who were garnering Heisman attention throughout the season, on his team.
Best seasons, it goes Jordan Lynch, Te'o, and then Manziel, but it's super, super close. There's no issue with Manziel getting the Heisman, like he likely will win tonight.
It was a down year for the Heisman. Guys like Barner and Lee didn't make it to the most elite level as their teams floundered down the stretch. Geno Smith would have had a real shot had his team had a defense.
Oh shut the fuck up. He definitely does not deserve the Heisman... his competition was weak and his toughest game was against Kent State.
This is Johnny Manziel's stat line:
CMP ATT YDS TD INT
273 400 3419 24 8
Significantly better completion percentage (over 4 percentage points better than Lynch) and about 500 more yards. Tied on TDs but Lynch threw less picks.
ATT YDS AVG LNG TD
184 1181 6.4 72 19
Lynch has a lot more yards but also on a lot more attempts (their YPC are almost the same), and they have the same amount of TDs.
Now the difference and the reason Johnny Football is SO much better than Lynch is this... these are the 6 best teams each guy played against, in order:
Lynch - Kent State, Ball State, Toledo, Iowa, Central Michigan, Western Michigan
Manziel - Alabama, Florida, LSU, Mississippi State, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss
No comparison, really...
It would be a travesty if Te'o won the Heisman. Great player and great story but as others have mentioned, his numbers aren't all that different from other defensive players in the country. Manziel's numbers are just ridiculous and he did it as a freshman QB playing in Texas A&M's first season in the SEC.
The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.
He's 20, not 18. I guarantee TAMU doesn't win a NC during Manziel's time there.
I will not be surprised if they do get a title, but their defense will need to improve. They will win 10-11 in the next few seasons, winning a big game or two, but may lose others. I don't think the SEC is a suicidal move at all because Texas is pretty rich with athletes, even if they do compete with UT. Also, it seems Sumlin was a good choice for them.
Teo may be the most overrated player of all time
I don't think there is any way he wins it. I sure as hell hope he doesn't win it either. He has had a "good" year, but JM has had an unreal year.
I feel bad his gf and grandma died, but that has nothing to do with how good of a player you are.
There's a time and a place for everything and it's called college.
Yeah, I would be rather upset if my team drafted him. I just do not, and have never, understood why he gets so much hype (ok, the jersey he wears is a major factor). He's been getting major hype for years.
I remember in 2010, he was already supposed to be some sort of monster LB. Bell made him look like a fool multiple times that game.
I mean, I've always wanted a defensive player to be able to win the Heisman, but damn if Teo wouldn't be the most underwhelming defensive winner ever.
Oops, wrong thread.

Excuse me if I believe that the Heisman should go to an outstanding football player instead of an outstanding human being who has overcome incredible personal adversity and had a mediocre season for a good team.
If Suh couldn't win it, I don't know who could. But not Teo.
Literally my exact thought right there.
Heisman Trophy is a joke.
