How about Izzo and Hollis get together a year before Izzo is ready to retire and they agree on the successor? If they want to include Coach D in the conversation, that would be fine. I think the rest of us can defer to their decision. They seem to have the whole long term strategic thing down JMO
It's a town full of losers. I'm pulling out of here to win!
Vargman also needs to be consulted.
This with a capital T
As a DE'er and someone who makes strong statements and questions our coaches frequently (I'm the "idiot" who suggested that Johnny Adams lose playing time because of his poor play), I can honestly say that Tom Izzo could name Lupe his successor and I'd be OK with it. If anyone has proven that he loves this program and would make sure he leaves it under the best hands possible, it is TI. The Final Four runs in 2009 and 2010 solidified his total awesomeness in my mind.
Now that being said, I have always thought that Fife would be a great high D1 coach and he'd be my pick, but DS would be great as well. Regardless, I'll trust TI on whatever he chooses.
A lot can happen in 5-6 years...it's nice to speculate but is really only an after thought at this point. I still think Izzo coaches about 10 more years.
That's always been Day Day's downfall, he lacks good judgement sometimes when he gets in front of a camera or microphone. At times, he reveals more than he should without comprehending the potential impact of his words on others. He just talks to much at times. He's not quite as savvy as he thinks he is some times.

The will to succeed is important, but what's more important is the will to prepare.
Hahaa...thanks for the vote of confidence, my man, but just because I was in a recent practice video doesn't mean I have that kind of access. LOL
Why were you in the practice video?
I still say that Fife is the man---no other reason for him to leave a hc job in my opinion. Learn under Izzo for 5-6 years and all of the intricacies of MSU basketball and the program and eventually take over.
What I heard Izzo say was he wanted to build MSU in the next 5-6 years to achieve something special and to be at a place where the MSU program would be strong indefinitely.
I took that to mean that he meant get a solid set of recruits and a recruiting pipeline, and a solid record in place.
While that certainly could mean he wants to set the program on a strong footing for his legacy, I did not hear Izzo announce the date of his retirement.
I totally remember being able to grasp the whole impact of everything I said when I was 23.
What about Josh Pastner?
Dane Fife. End of story.
A man's gotta eat!
Nigel and Fletch fighting. How cute. What else is new. Both must have 20 DSFs going on at any given time. Fletch is a sanctimonious ahole to the first degree.
Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.
The loyal assistant/coach-in-wating thing rarely works. Elite programs go out and get proven head coaches. Try the other "Stevens".

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
You're right it worked out terrible when Jud did it with Izzo. Also a complete failure with Keady and Painter right?
Painter is terrible, so bad example.
Why do you say Dane Fife? Do you know something about him (outside his mediocre record at IPFW) that we don't know. What are the specific reasons you favor Fife over others on the staff now?
Unless we have a complete stooge become AD, Izzo will decide if any current guys are up to the task. Building this program has been his life's work, he is not going turn it over to someone he doesn't believe can carry on.
fk no. Pastner himself said he only got the job at Memphis because no one else wanted it. He's not a terrible coach but I don't think he's a MSU level coach.
The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
On the surface the records seem mediocre. A deeper look shows IPFW won between 2 and 9 games season with the previous coach. Fife won 10 his first season and maxed out with an 18-12 record his last season. His replacement won 11 games last season. I'd say his records at IPFW were excellent for the school he was at.
Fair enough. He's kept Memphis in the top 20 and seems like a good recruiter, and he's doing all that at 35 years old. He's only going to get better. If Memphis has any type of tourney run, his name is going to blow up.
