I'm not going to blow sunshine. If someone is wrong, they need to be corrected.
I don't have a dog in this fight at the moment, so take this for what it's worth, but for Stephens supporters - what is it that he's done exactly that you believe would make him a great head coach? Up until this year, I didn't see any marked, significant development in our bigs under his direction. To be fair, other than helping with substitutions, I'm not sure what kind of floor coaching he does or what his responsibilities are on the bench or game planning. I am always cautious to temper the enthusiasm of players toward a coach (no disrespect to Green). You see it more in football, but it its somewhat true of basketball as well - over 4-5 years, these guys begin to think their position coaches walk on water. These are the guys that work most directly with kids and are the ones who get to "love them up," while the HC is typically the tear-down guy. It forms strong ties.
I am admittedly very, very gun-shy about the player-recommended coach. Again, no disrespect to Draymond, but kids don't really fully understand what a coach does or is supposed to do.
In regards to resumes, someone earlier was dogging on Fife's. At least the guy has been a head coach. There's a LOT more to the job than what happens on the court in view of the public. A lot more that doesn't have anything to do with the game - administration, handling people, media relations, coordinating an entire office/program, marketing input, etc. I was under the impression that Izzo brought Fife in to him ready to be a HC - here or at D1 somewhere, and assumed he was interested in looking at Fife as a possibility here down the road.
Anyway, Izzo will make the pick and we'll be in great shape. Much ado about nothing right now.
No shit. You're not part of the team.
Memphis is also a hotbed of recruiting. Kids here are drilled to go to Memphis and their facilities are top notch. It's a VERY easy school to recruit to.
The first time MSU basketball aired in France the French surrendered to Tom Izzo just to be safe.
When you cite his record you have to consider the competition which could be called the very bottom of Div.1 -It's clear his record at IPFW would not qualify him for the MSU job. Since so many think he is the most qualified candidate to replace Izzo I was wondering what their criteria is to make this judgemnet vis a vis others on the staff. In no way am I knocking Fife - if he is good enough for Izzo he sure is good enough for me.
