1 year ago-we will beat um, OSU, and ND with the guys they pass on. 11+ wins, Rose Bowl or even NC.
Now-fire Roushar. Just get 9 regular season wins next year and beat michigan, and I am good.
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.
The fact we have let an assistant go and it was Gill instead of Rousharded, Staten or Samuels has shaken my confidence in the programs future.

It is ALWAYS a great day to be a Spartan!!!!
I am still confident that we have an upper-tier defense, and just like last year we don't have a clear picture of the production we will get out of the QB position. If the QB plays average to well, we'll have a solid year and win 9 or more games. If he struggles, it's another 7 or 8 win season.
Did we beat ND last year?
last year - I hope roushar learned from sucking and doesnt fuck it up
this year - no chance (to move above mediocrity) with roushar
Behold the walls of Sparta: 10000 men and every one a brick.
We had the talent to win a lot of games last season - the problem was that our defense was playing at an elite level (with the exception of a couple games) while our offense was playing at a GLIAC level (despite having the talent to do better) - early in the season, it became a game of field position and who has the best kicker. Around the Michigan game, I didn't think the play calling was too horrible (once we finally started calling plays that weren't bubble screens), but was frustrated at the receiving corps inability to hold on to the football. I think that we have the talent to have a 9+ win season this year (in a lot of ways, the 2012 season reminded me a lot of the 2009 season, except this year it was the offense that sucked vs. the defense sucking in 2009). I get the impression that Coach D felt that a lot of our problems on offense were youth and inexperience. I guess we'll see. I'm disappointed that Roushar will be back in 2013, but I was also a bit worried that Narduzzi was back in 2010, and that ended up working out alright.
With a decent QB, MSU has 3 to 5 more wins and nobody is complaining about Roushar.
This. At very least, I'm anxious to see how the added competition at the QB position makes the players better. Still need a bit more out of our receivers, but I remember getting pretty frustrated with Dell and Cunningham early in their time at MSU.

One time, we had Cousins, 3-5 more wins, and people complained like mad about Roushar.
You would complain if MSU won 11 or 12 games?
Throwing the QB under the bus and pretending Roushar isn't a problem is what's going to unravel all the progress MD has made. Raytooth Morgan has it right in his post.
This. I think the WRs were a problem early on in '12 (through the tOSU game), but vs. UM, Nebraska and Northwestern, I had a much bigger problem with Maxwell.
Schedule is tailor-made for a big season: 4 games to start, ending with @ND, but a bye following it so that MSU can go all out and have time to recover. After the 1st bye, it's @Iowa, then the 3 cupcakes of the conference: IL, Purdue, IU, right in a row. Finishing off this 5 game stretch is a home date with UM; with the 3 games prior being physically light, MSU should have plenty of momentum. After the emotional UM game, it's a 2nd BYE, giving MSU a chance to really rest up (and avoid an emotional hangover) for the next game: @Nebraska. Following that, it's @Northwestern and Minnesota.
Season breaks up into relatively easy to manage sections. By rights, it's made for 9 Ws, probably 10 given MSU vs. UM is in SS. If the QB situation isn't figured out quickly though (and the RB situation as well), MSU can certainly lose @ND, @Iowa, UM, @Nebraska, @Northwestern. I have a hard time seeing MSU losing to WMU, USF, Youngstown, IU, Purdue, IL or Minny, especially with Minny at home.
Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
Internet message board BS armchair QB/whining will determine success on the field?
That's probably good news for 247.
Coming into 2012, I thought we were setup for a Rose Bowl. We had almost our entire O Line and defense returning. We had a backup who had been groomed for the position he was assuming for 3 years. And we had OSU and ND at home....@UM and @Wisconsin were the tough ones, but UM still stinks and Wisconsin looked ready to have a down year.
Coming into this year, I'm skeptical. We lost three of our best players and don't have heir apparents for any of them. I think our offense is a giant question mark. We have no clear QB, no clear RB, no clear WRs....We lost our best offensive lineman. I think the schedule is favorable, but I'm not sure that this team is very good.
The word "Rousharded" was not coined during the 2012 season.
I prefer Roushart.
Exactly. Out of all the terrible games he has called, the game he called @ND in our magical 2011 season might've been the worst one... followed closely by the @Nebraska game in that same season.
We all knew that Cousins, BJ, and Keshawn were bailing him out. No one thought he was a good OC even when we were good.
The whole team, or just the O?
Narduzzi is a huge talent, the guy on the other side is not. Apparently the DC wasn't happy with DL performance and made a change, meanwhile the O couldn't help but shit itself on a weekly basis and not a change is made. Think MD is a great coach, and if he thinks he's got the personnel to make the O go, then fine. That said, this past season seems like it would be more indicative of what we're going to get from the current OC. He was fielding his O in '12, not one his predecessor coached.
Was he a good OC for the games we won in 2011? Or he was just bad for the games we lost?
I would flip those, because the Nebraska's scheme was being for anything but what we were running, though ND had more WTF calls. The Nebraska problem was more with the whole approach.

The whole team. We lost Gholston and Adams on defense. That hurts. Our defensive line play really hasn't been the same since Worthy left. Marcus Rush had a pretty poor year in 2012. I'm not convinced that we have 2 solid DTs on this team. Bullough is a very good MLB. Allen, like Rush, had a bad year in 2012. Without Worthy distracting people, his blitzes were picked up. And he whiffed on more than his share of tackles last year. The safeties are also a huge question mark. Lewis seemed to have to over compensate for the loss of Robinson.
I'm not saying our defense will stink. It might be very average next year though. If it's average, and our offense is garbage again next season, it won't be pretty to watch
