But a big ten title doesn't boost our exposure and help with recruiting?
So many people on this board apply this double standard much too often.
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care." - Mark Dantonio.
Not as much as a FF run, and getting the 2/3 seed in the BTT allows us an easier path to do that in the NCAAs
Gooooooooooo Blue Team
Hate for UM > Love for MSU = insecure, little brother complex (x 288)
Do you have the balls to tell that to Dantonio?
I would glady share my woman with another woman. Or even 2 women.
For good measure, multiply it again by 2
Ask the seniors that couldn't go to a Rose Bowl because UM couldn't beat O$U if their time ever came
You are crazy.
Izzo isn't worried about U of M. I can assure you Izzo and every player in the locker room, while they may not say they are "rooting" for michigan, would rather win a Big Ten title shared with michigan, than not win one at all.
You are deranged if you dont think winning a 4th Big Ten title in 5 years won't mean something, and wont mean as much as it would for any other team who wins.
Besides, after winning the regular season, its not as if each tied team doesnt have a change in the B1G tourney, and NCAA tourney to elevate themselves from the rest (just like last year).
the players play the games to raise banners and win championships...not to make sure a rival doesnt get to do the same thing.
I think there are two sets of people rooting for IU Sunday:
A) I hate UM, can't root for them, don't want them to get a share
B) IU winning gives MSU it's best chance for deep tourney run/ high seed.
I'm in group B
Yeah? Well MSU is 3-0 vs Wisky and Illinois, and IU is 0-2. There is no such thing as backing into a title. 5 losses is 5 losses. MSU played the toughest conference schedule once again this year. Does a loss the last game of conference play count less than a loss the first conference game?
Do you have the balls to say that to Jud Heathcote or Tom Izzo?
Izzo said his mentor, former Michigan State coach Jud Heathcote, wouldn't want him to root for rival Michigan to win in any circumstance.
''I'm going to pull for Michigan State,'' Izzo said. ''And, I'm going to pull for (senior) Derrick Nix.''
It's as close to a win-win as I think were going to get this year.
Izzo's 8th B1G title. 4th in 5 years. That's domination in an era where the B1G has been it's best in history.
Way too many people forget about the drought from 2001-2009 I guess.
This year the regular season champ isn't as important due to the variance in scheduling.
Look at the way the B1G schedule breaks out:
Thumbnail analysis of the top and bottom teams in the B1G:
Top Teams / Bottom Feeders
UM / PSU
MSU / NU
WI / NEB
Only OSU and MSU have played the other four top teams twice each. Both UM and IU have played the other 4 only 7 times. Wiscy has played the other top teams only 6 times.
The bottom feeders have played Wiscy 6 times. IU , UM and OSU have played them 5 times. MSU only has played them 4 times.
In a nutshell, because of the skewed schedule, this regular season is less relevant IMHO and the B1G tourney is more relevant this year.
These numbers are telling me that MSU is the best B1G team. The only argument against this is that IU beat them twice. However IU played one less top team and 1 more bottom feeder than MSU, a potential 2 game swing.
To hell with the UM / IU outcome. MSU can beat both of these teams in the tourney. If they don't, they didn't deserve the B1G championship.
edit: separation of the bottom teams and top teams didn't happen when this posted.

The old people on this board has little brother syndrome like crazy. Yes, It's the doomsday scenario, but so what???!?
12177 Post before moving here. 10/29/11 will live forever in our hearts (plus 50 votes in the last 3 hours)
Lol- the only argument is IU beat us twice.
You obviously didn't read the post....
"Do I have the balls...." yeah, okay tough guy.....
Some of you people....
Oh, Izzo's statement (like Appling's) does not imply he is not hoping for IU to lose. He wants what is best for MSU. Championships are what matter.
Do you have the balls to tell Dantonio he hates UM more than he likes MSU?
I don't think this is true. He's using false equivalence. MSU has not been in a position to directly benefit from a UM win under Dantonio, we've just been in spots where hypothetically it would be helpful if they won.
Also, Tressel isn't at OSU anymore, so he doesn't have the friends there that he cares about anymore.
I hate scUM, and will NEVER root for them to win....so in this case, I'm rooting for IU to lose. There's a subtle difference....
I would guess that's what Coach D and Izzo are doing also. Izzo has repeatedly stated that his programs play for banners and championships...this would put another one up in the rafters.
I struggle with this. Having scUM propel us thru the side door to a shared title would be bitter sweet. Had we taken care of business in any of the last three games before last night, we would never be having this discussion. Screw it. I may not even watch the game because I don't want to find myself silently cheering for either team's good fortunes.
Spartans ...committed to bring Paul Bunyan home in 2013.
