When his foot was good, he was an average defender. His key move will be the flop. He cannot cover from the 3 to the basket, and more importantly, if he follows Payne out there, we will dominate on the O glass.
I think the better point is if Duke goes small ball, which I bet they do. That will be interesting, and I am sure coach k is dialing up tosu footage of the pick-and-roll with craft on nix. I know he'd love to try it was well with Kelly popping out for 3s.
Dawson...Dawson...Dawson. All day long. That's a major mismatch in our favor. I have a feeling they are going to double down hard on our bigs. If BJ can find the soft spots in the D and make solid cuts to the rack he could have a monster game.
You're in college. The window of opportunity to drink and do drugs and take advantage of young girls is getting smaller by the day.
btw, this duke team is the only duke team I've ever seen that completely gave up and showed no heart and laid down for another team before the end of a half. What Miami did to them at Miami was just plain dirty. It was a dunk show, not a game, for Miami. And it made me hate coach k even more-he kept the starters in when Miami had in their walk-ons and pressed them, even when it was clear Miami was trying to run out the clock and finish the game, so that duke wouldn't suffer their all-time worse loss there. 5 points in the last 30 seconds.
So...this duke team, in my eyes, is the least mentally tough of any I've seen under coach k. They play well even, and play even better with the lead, but if you get up on them, they are susceptible to the beat down.
That's the key to the entire game, IMO. Duke will absolutely go to that ball screen. It will likely be with Plumlee setting the screen and then diving to the rim, since Nix will be guarding Plumlee. Getting Nix in no-mans land is what made that play effective for OSU.
If Nix and Appling can communicate and defend the ball screen as well as they did against Michigan in EL, then I think we will be ok handling Duke with our one-on-one matchups defensively.

I think Appling's personal vendetta against Craft has something to do with it as well. He needed help handling Craft's drives and was not going to ask for it. Hopefully he's learned.
Plumlee and Kelly never get called for fouls the refs are bribed by Coach K it's all a conspiracy it will never happen.
Conveniently forget that both players were in huge foul trouble against Creighton last night
Payne and Nix should be able to open up a ton of opportunities for the guards and Dawson driving to the basket. Nix's progress as an effective passer is gonna come into play as it usually does, especially if Duke decides to double team him.
Is Seth Curry gonna (try to) guard Gary Harris? Curry will get his points, but I think Harris will have a big, big game. Playing close to home won't hurt.
Dawson in the State of Indiana this season:
32 points, 11 rebounds, 7 steals.
