on their message board. "Crisis mode" comment came from a Minny contact.
Wes McElroy @WesSR91015m I've been told by a reliable source that VCU is actively working on restructuring Shaka Smart's contract and working to make it...
"If you have the right to be offended I have the right to offend you." - Ricky Gervais
It's an easy time for Shaka to get a raise, even if he doesn't want to leave VCU.
Since he's out of the tourney, he should just make himself scarce, and not take any calls from the AD or any donors. His agent can screen calls, and have his assistant say that he's really busy, and to please leave a message. Let them squirm for a day or two, and you got yourself a hefty raise, longer term deal, new facilities, or whatever else they've been dragging their feet on.
Or, he could actually be looking to take one of the jobs that are open.
Assuming it is Shaka or someone else, they'll have their work cut out for them at Minnesota. It is just a very hard place to win at in basketball and football for that matter. There's not many home grown recruits and the most of the big time recruits don't want to go to an average program that is located in an area covered in winter weather 6 months out of the year.
The other issue is Minny seems to always believe that they should be better and as fans I can appreciated that sentiment but the reality is IMO it is almost impossible in today's day and age of college sports to turn Minnesota into a basketball or football powerhouse. I suppose anything can happen but the truth is like anything you often need to take slow steps and Minnesota never wants to hold on and slowly build a program or even accept just being a solid team. They are always wanting a home run and almost always end up right back where they started.
Well Smart and Hoiberg are both staying at their respective universities. Now who's Minny going to bring in for their coach? I doubt it'll be Flip Saunders, so after that it'll be a relatively unknown commodity.
Gregg Marshall is their best case scenario which makes the firing of Tubby that much more hilarious.
Marshall would be one hell of a hire - he's done more at WSU than Tubby did at Minny. Saunders is not out of the question yet either. It's an issue as to whether he can coach in college and be involved with the Twolves.
I was told that Tim Miles is interested but Delaney is working to make sure that doesn't happen.

I have always liked Tubby, but I do think Marshall or Flip would be an upgrade. I think Flip ends up getting it.
