Their AD needs to be run out on a rail.
This is why you can't have nice things Minny.
I can't really think of a hot prospect that would take the Minnesota job given what else is out there. At best, they'll end up with a lateral hire with one less NC ring than Tubby.
According to multiple reports, Smith has not yet been notified of his status by the school. Rough way to find out.
Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.
Exactly. He's a good man, and MSU fans love him because Izzo has always expressed his respect for him, but how many times have you seen the Gophers just blow games over Tubby's time there?
I think he's a solid coach, they would always remain competitive, but I can understand wanting to find someone to get to the next level.
I can also understand Izzo getting upset about it, because he loves the guy, and no one would accuse Tubby of doing it anything but the right way.
Hard to blame them for wanting to move on when he's had 6 years and never got them above 6th place or above .500 in conference play.

At this point I'm sure someone has already suggested Shaka.
Yes, and it appears people already have really good reasons why he wouldn't coach at Minny

The demand excellence in Minnesota.
I'm glad locals love it. Players don't
Minnesota thinks they are UCLA. Tubby was the best thing to happen to that program since what? Lol Minnesota basketball is a joke. I wonder if they'll get Howland, since Jamie Dixon isn't going anywhere.
Classless. Good luck getting a decent coach when you treat people like that, Goofers.
Any coach with a brain should pass on that dump of a sports program.
Great guy I am sure but they sure went in the tank this year - like every year.
Flip Saunders is a hot name
They might make a run at the Creighton and Wichita coaches
Rogue Leader= Obese coward who didn't attend MSU and has no college degree
Again....3 of the last 5 years they've made the tournament. Prior to that it was 1 of the last 9.
He got them to the next level. They make the tournament more than they miss it. Prior to his arrival, they didn't make it.
Someone else mentioned it, but this is very similar to when they fired Glen Mason. They had a coach who got them some success, and they thought they could do better. They can't. They're Minnesota
Flip Saunders and Shaka Smart are names floating around.
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
Maybe it's because it's hard to attract talented players to a school in Minnesota with very little tradition. Their only final four appearance in the last 40 years came because Clem's players were "getting extra help" in class.
McDermott won't leave Creighton and Marshall would be a lateral hire.
Minnesota can't do better than that unless they cheat. I'm not sure why they think they can.
I hate the Gophers. They beat Indiana, MSU and won a tournament game. By their standards that's a decent year.
What would be the point of hiring Flip Saunders? He is the poster boy for post season choke jobs.
and both should keep swimming.
They'll get a bunch of 'no's and then will get their 10th option candidate. Anyone? Anyone? Bill Carmody? Anyone?
Minny is dumb as hell.
Horrible, HORRIBLE move by Minnesota. Tubby had that program on the rise and he had marquee wins to show for it
LoL. They might have a chance of getting Ellerbe to coach for them.
