Today at 330 est, get ready to be depressed hockey fans
From what I've gathered, there is speculation that this conference will be when Bettman and The Board of Governors announce another lockout.

At this point, the NHL should die and the Original Six franchises should leave, start their own league and invite roughly 15 other additional cities to participate in a new, viable hockey league.
Talk about a league that is going of its way to kill itself.
Well I guess they really don't care if soccer passes them as the 5th most popular sport
That would be great to see, the level of play would be through the roof with 10 less teams diluting the talent pool. Too bad the downsized owners and cities would be in court to put a stop to it.
Does this mean that NHL 13 will be heavily discounted?
I guess this is one way to not have to actually deal with the fact we signed a fucking midget like Hudler or TooToo on the cheap instead of anybody worth a shit.

Marriage is like flying with kids, if the flight had 500 connections, never ended, Ted Striker were your pilot and you ate the fish.
5th? Try about 7th depending on what you consider sports. They're behind golf and nascar already. They were the one league that couldn't afford another work stoppage. Idiots.
Maybe Holland saw the writing on the wall and figured that some talent will be available at a discount if a new deal is ever signed.
NHL minus well shut it down. Since the last one of these and the pussyification of the game I can barely watch it.
I'd be happy going back to the "pre-bettman" NHL. Maybe allow Colorado and Dallas/Minnesota to keep their franchises, maybe move a few more to Quebec, Hartford, Hamiltion, etc...and cut the rest.
Reorganize the league into the old Campbell/Wale Conferences.
6th forgot about golf. but maybe 7th if you throw tennis in there. Damn they really fell
Now would also be a great time for the WWE guys to start a hockey league. Start a league in hockey-rich markets and allow fighting. The XHL would be a great hit.
never happen with the focus on head injuries
I knew Bettman would fuck things up again.
I am sure we will be asking the same question in a few years with the NBA, but how could they not fix anything during the last lockout???
The really sad thing about it all is that basically no one cares.
Well that would put the whole Winter Classic in jeopardy.
that game was awesome....remember the green blob goal?
What are they saying? Stream wont work on iPhone.
I think the Winter Classic will still go on. But there will be a lockout.
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
I think the lockout will end in time to get the WC in.
It takes an enormous amount of ineptitude to lose money owning an NHL franchise with the hard cap and cost certainty (player salaries locked into league revenue) yet the NHL is littered with retarded owners that find a way to do it.
Unfortunately, this could be the end of the league. The players made concessions in 2005, and amazingly they recently made some more. The shitty owners of shitty teams are looking to do what the NFL did and make it so that there is no way a team can ever lose money no matter how bad the organization is ran.
There is no way you can keep a Commish who let 2 lockouts happen.
Teams that need to be downsized:
That would leave 24 teams, conferences of 12, divisions of 4:
84 Games 42/42
Play every team in the opposite conference at home and away (like NBA) = 12 H, 12 A
Play every team in the conference not in division 3 times = 12 H, 12 A (rotate over 2 years)
Play other division teams 6 times = 18 H, 18A
Division heavy play keeps travel costs down, and allows natural rivalries to foster. Every fan can see every team every year, and travel costs are more equalized between East and West
Teams that are contracted have their players contracts picked up at current value, with 10% of contract going to contracted owners. Owner's costs of loss are absorbed by owners of non contracted teams.
Fixed. Too bad. I just moved into a place a few blocks from the United Center, was really hoping to be able to go to a few Wings/Hawks games. Oh well.
