Lightning actually may be the mpst popular team in TB and have a storng fan base. I honestly think you could drop Anaheim. I know they get strong attendence., but they have to split a fan base with the Kings in a non hockey market. Yeah Columbus, Florida, Phoenix can all go. It will condense a lot of talent as well.
PHX is fucking pathetic. Move them or contract them.
Looking for 2011-2012 NHL attendance numbers? You've come to the right place.
"Put your mother in a straight-jacket you punk ass white boy." ~ Mike Tyson
This is exactly what led the NHL down the path from the highly visible ESPN networks to the 3rd rate Versus network several years ago. Comical that they are making the same mistake, AGAIN.
"Guys, we weren't even on the map at the beginning of the season, you all know that. We just kinda worked ourselves into the situation."MD
Coming up next on Bravo--Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins square off against Pavel Datsyuk and the Detroit Red Wings. That's up next, after Real Housewives!
(yes, I know NBC still has a contract...)

Sidney Crosby will address the live stream & media in 15 - 20 mins. The Players are doing interviews with the media on the side of the stage now.
"When I woke up in bed this morning I turned to Gary and just said that we can work things out. Don't quit us"
Just a thought, but both the NHL and NHLPA have held pressers on each of the last 2-3 days. Why on earth would they announce a lockout now, 2 days prior to the CBA expiring? Unless the two sides are light years apart, which it doesn't really sound like, I don't see this being an announcement of work stoppage. I see it as an update on events that took place today. Bettman said yesterday that the two sides were going to reconvene today and also had time set aside on Friday to talk. Don't see a negative announcement happening today.
You gotta leave Detroit in the west to have some draw for the teams out west. Moreover, Chicago and Detroit are tied at the hip. If you move Detroit into the east, it's going to be even harder for the Western Franchises to succeed. Detroit is going to be fine wherever it goes, and for the good of the sport they'd stay in the west.
Moreover, every franchise has devoted followers - you don't think the thrashers, expos, and sonics fans were upset when they lost their team? Teams, however, make their money 3 ways - merchandising, luxury boxes, and TV. Nashville may sell out their games, but they sure as hell aren't killing it on the TV or boxes. If you're going to contract, there are going to be some tough decisions beyond Phoenix and Florida. However, a two team contraction, while helpful, is not the answer.
All you guys saying Bettman sucks and they should shrink the league make me laugh. You think the union would accept a deal that contracts the league?? Hell no. This is not all on Bettman folks, there are a lot of moving parts, but like most pro leagues the commissioner is in a no win situation and takes the brunt of the blame.

I know they have a lot of transplants in Southern California but it is kind of surprising that Anaheim draws. Is their crowd at the games basically the extent of the fan base ?
I've heard LA knocked in past for having fans that don't care. However, I won't count losing the Rams against them since that was a extort a stadium out of the taxpayers issue. Also. I don't count the Raiders since they should have never left Oakland in the first place.
I would love to see contraction but the Players Association will never go for that scenario.
Thank you. Red Wings fan first, but Canes fan second. I live 10 minutes from the PNC Arena in Raleigh - please don't try to eliminate the Hurricanes. I think the Canes generally come out about even or slightly positive in revenue over the years (obviously better in the playoff years) but there is a solid fan base and the team has been improving. Nothing wrong with the state of hockey in Carolina. It doesn't rake in money like NYR and DET, but they are doing fine.
Anyone else pulling for a 2004-2005 all over again? that was great.
IT ARE NHL LOCKOUT YET????
And who was the idiot that over expanded the league into markets that didn't care about hockey again?
The biggest problem with Buttman is that he won't let the market dictate where teams go. Maybe he has a slam piece (likely a dude) on the side in Phoenix, so he needs a reason to go there several times a year. If a city has shown that they can't support a team it shouldn't be up to all the other teams to prop them up. Business owners put their operations where it is financially beneficial, not where they are told they have to be.
And if he wants to operate that way, then go to a soft cap with a luxury tax with that money helping the have-nots.
I wish they would it is better for the league and would probably raise the salary cap. The only expansion I want to see is in Ice size. The esitmated Million dollers per stadium will be well worth it

The owners voted unanimously to lockout if an agreement can't be reached. There isn't a lockout yet, but they've stated that they're happy to go there if necessary.
Absolutely DISGUSTING the way things are run if we (already) have another lockout.
F that guy.
So they will be locked out on Sunday. Great.
so what the shit happened at the presser?
fuck the popo
Bettman basically thumbed his nose at everyone, put all blame on the PA
BAD MR ILLITCH BAD!
I hate him, but good for him on this one!
I am pulling for another lost season!
