I am just really excited about this news. I hate the what the NHL has become and hope it goes belly-up.
It will never go belly-up. Hockey fans are too loyal. The owners have no problem locking out because they know the loyal fans will be back. They will lose some casual fans, but they don't have all that many casual fans anyway. It is a niche sport, and those fans love it.
"Put your mother in a straight-jacket you punk ass white boy." ~ Mike Tyson
Obviously the league is in the middle of a lockout now, but the bigger news is about players making their plans for the immediate future. Datsyuk is going back to Russia to play for Ak Bars Kazan and a number of Wings will probably be playing in the AHL or various European leagues. If I read correctly, the Swedish top division has a requirement that players coming over will have to sign for a full season, regardless of when the lockout ends. The KHL also has limits on the number of foreign players that can be signed (not sure of all the specifics), so it will be interesting to see where everyone ends up.
Depends on where you are, I guess. North Carolina, yes. Michigan, no. I don't know what the numbers are, but I know a hell of a lot more hockey fans than NASCAR.
Its five o'clock somewhere.

Here are Nascar's tv ratings and here are the ratings for the Stanley Cup finals (which had an LA team). It doesn't take a genius to figure out which is more popular in the US.
After a four-year run of big market matchups with exciting storylines and rivalries, the Stanley Cup Finals took a dip and hit a five-year low. The Stanley Cup Finals averaged 3.0 million viewers...
I watched almost every single wings game the year before the lockout (2003-2004) and one season after (2005-06), but I haven't been able to get excited about hockey since. Even the two years they were in the finals it was still just nothing special anymore.
I don't understand why they've gone out of their way to eliminate fighting completely. Eat a dick Bettman.
Form the CHL. Take all northern US hockey teams and all the Canadian teams and make it work
Fuck Bettman and fuck the owners
4 states of being in the cannabis society ------------
Which one are you??
What in any way, shape or form is Bettman responsible for this? It's all on the owners/NHLPA.
So despite some very exciting, memorable and well played hockey since the last lockout, you are not into it because there is less fighting? So you were a fighting fan, not a hockey fan? Go watch MMA, instead.
Just got this email today...

So this may end up being ok...eliminate some shitty pre-season games, and pay me 2% interest
good luck, I get the sinking feeling we're not watching NHL hockey this year
At least we can watch the Tigers in the playoffs and the Spartans win the Rose Bowl...
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
That's apples & oranges. NASCAR has 1 race a week for the whole country to watch. What are there, 40+ NHL games in a week to split amungst the fans of the various teams. Even in the finals you'll get a lot of dropoff from fans who's teams aren't playing.
Datsyuk's disallowed goal from last night...
CSKA Moscow beat Avangard Omsk 1-0.
The players need to stop acting stupid and end the lock-out!
Genius. Pure genius.
Thank you, Denicos.
Fehr and his lackey are meeting with Bettman and his lackey on Friday, we'll see what transpires
A multi-tweet from Renaud Lavoie quoted the former president of the Candiens (Pierre Boivin_ as being more optimistic than last time, because the major issue (lack of a salary cap) had been solved last time around.
Nice to say, but they can't even agree on the definition of the major component of the cap this time around (hockey-related revenue). Just saying the worst part is fixed doesn't mean much more than, "We won't miss the entire season this time." Thanks for nothing, pal.
“Is it wrong for me to be a little happy?” country music superstar Carrie Underwood, wife of Nashville forward Mike Fisher, asked The Tennessean. “I mean, ‘I’m sorry for you, but it’s great for me.’”
You are a smelly pirate hooker! Why don't you go back to your home on whore island!
Finally, Mike Fisher will have time to clean out the garage.
fuck that bitch
I'm sure it's great for Mike Fisher, too. Think of how much time he has to rail her now.
