Good point, and also highly dependent on your WIFI/internet provider. I doubt seriously that TBarne gets those speeds at home.
at Verizon. For once I'm glad I'm on AT&T.
Switching between WiFi and 4G is working out well for me. I haven't even used 1% of my 2GB data plan yet since I got the phone Saturday afternoon (thank you, 3G Watchdog).
What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...
I wouldn't be so quick to laugh. You're merely living on the other side of the customer-fisting, competition-killing, innovation-stifling duopoly coin. At least I can console myself with unlimited LTE.
I understand that. I'm getting unlimited LTE later this year so meh.
The bootloader is the code that runs before the OS loads. Kind of like the BIOS on a PC.
Some people like to install custom ROMs onto their phones instead of running the stock OS, which carriers like HTC or Samsung modify to add their own user interface (e.g. Sense, TouchWiz). Plus, if you root the phone you can install the latest version of Android yourself instead of waiting for OTA updates from the manufacturer, which are usually delayed by months.
If the bootloader is locked, then essentially the phone can't be rooted. Developers crack locked bootloaders to make this possible, but if the bootloader is encrypted, then it's damn near impossible to fully unlock the phone. This is an issue for people who want to overclock or do more advanced modifications. Not important for 95% of users, but a huge issue to developers who make custom ROMs for others to install onto their phones.
Pretty sold on this phone, I think. Would it be worth the extra $50 to get the 32GB or will 16GB be enough. Also, I've heard if you call to order the phone they can let you keep your unlimited data. Any one have any luck with this method?
The extra $50 isn't *necessary* because of the slot for a MicroSD card (which these days can get up to 64Gb for like 35 bucks).
That said, mine is a 32 because...it was only 50 bucks. I'm basically a sucker. Don't be like me.
As for unlimited, you might as well call and beg, but I'd be doubtful. When was the last time you heard of Verizon relenting on not making as much money as possible on a customer?
Still figuring things out about this phone. I guess we are stuck, for now, with teh Samsung version of swype, at least I couldn't find it on the market. Ringdroid is not compatible either, but it doesn't matter the few ringtones I made, were saved somehow.
Skype - Works great, can't believe how clear the picture is, and easy to switch from front to back camera's. Talked to my sister for about 45 minutes last night adn it only used 25% of the battery, which isn't bad considering how much power it takes, started to get warm at the end.
Angry birds - Well I found a folder called .android_secure, and that is apparently where all my apps are on the SD card, after searching online, I have more or less given up. None of the apps seem to restore my scores, may sound petty or sad, but I doubt I'm going to go through every level again to get back all 3 stars and golden eggs.
In relation to the angry birds, any games I had, with the exception of gun bros, I lost all data, maybe I'll head to a VZW store this weekend to see if they know how to transfer that info.
Taking the SD card out is much easier and doesn't require removal of the battery, which I can see becoming very handy at some point.
Powering on takes less than 30 seconds, and it has a restart option as well to reboot.
Picture quality is great, and the sound, with headphones on is great too.
Battery life is just fine for me, it seems to use about 50% of the battery while I'm at work, without recharging, I would say with moderate use.
In 3 days I've used 520 mb/data. I feel sorry for anyone who thinks that the 1gb is going to cover their needs.
I'm looking foward to watching the Olympics on this phone while I'm at work.
Now knowing what 1995 is like all over again! Thank you 247 technology!!
I love this phone. Battery has been pretty damn good for me (see pic and that is over 2 hours of screen time and using a live wallpaper).
Very customizable - colors, fonts, buttons/gestures, etc. Much more so than my gf HTC OneX.
Haven't really found many (any) negatives except that I am scared to take it out of the case. Some people don't think it looks nice, but I love the look. I just don't want to go commando and mess it up.
Live wallpaper? From what app?
For those of you who have the phone already, is it too large to, say, put in your pocket and walk around? From the specs, it looks like it is a fairly large phone, at least in terms of length and width; I know the depth is relatively small.
Just using one of the stock live wallpapers for now. Not sure of what are any good ones to download.
Intensity - all of my old games and scores from Words w Friends transferred over, so I dunno why your games didn't.
Tobias - I love the size. Screen itself is basically the size of an entire iFin (iPhone for those who haven't seen I Love You Man). I am wearing my "work jeans" right now which have smaller pockets and it still fits fine. If I out it in a chest pocket of a button up it sticks out at the top slightly. Phone is 4.8oz (iFin is 4.9) so it's not too heavy or bulky feeling.

Honestly, tomorrow will be one week with the phone and sometimes I forget it's in my pocket. It's so light and thin.
All your games, or all your games from Words w friends? The one game that everything came over on was connected through a facebook app. Either way, I'm probably going to hit up a store this weekend, see if there is anything I can do.
Tobias - This fits in my pocket just fine, lighter than my old Droid X, and only slightly bigger. I thought it was going to be a problem as well, but after a few days, it is just fine. Screen size is great, and now going to sites like espn, or even here is just fine. I thought on my X that espn and cnn were too small and hard to navigate through.
Just Words w Friends. Don't have any other games. And it's not linked to Facebook.
Just ordered mine. Pretty excited. Really won't miss my old Droid X.
That's what I replaced. It's a paper weight now.
Question: When plugging phone into PC with USB, why don't pictures display in "DCIM"? They are there if I open them, but the thumbnails don't show which pictures are where. It's all the same generic cloud background. [I'm using Windows Vista and never had any problems looking at pictures through my USB connection on my old HTC Aria]
Went and picked up mine on Saturday. Loving it so far.
Anyone know what Power Saving mode does?
Also, I sold my Samsung Charge back to Verizon for $61. And got to keep the memory card. So, the S3 was only $182 for me. Great deal.

Has anybody seen or used those TecTiles yet? If so how, are there any cool ideas yet?
I think power saving just shuts the screen off after non-use after a minute or two to save power. It also dims the brightness I believe. I could be wrong.
Because your computer hasn't indexed the photo's yet.
I think it also turns off vibrate.
TecTiles - I haven't personally used them but read an android forum where a dude had one on his night stand and it would turn on this alarm and put his phone in night mode or power saving mode. Better one was in his car - turned his WiFi off, Bluetooth on, and driving mode on.
Also - anyone buying a new phone should go to Radioshack or Target, where it is $50 off
Meaning...what? I downloaded the Kies program and the Samsung USB driver last night, haven't checked to see if the pics show up since then though. I hope that's the solution.
I couldn't get the Keis program to work, even updated Java and that made it so nothing loaded. If I can get it to work it should be great.
