Wow I don't know why people seem to think its too long. I was surprised it was already over by the end. And I thought the 'extra' stuff was all intriguing. But they definitely could have stuck to 2 movies
The goblin stuff under the mountain was simply too much CGI. Way over the top. Gandalf sounded old, and Christopher Lee is 90 and sounded as good now as ever--amazing. Some of the dwarf's beards were a little too stylish for a bunch of crude warriors.
For the most part, though, I liked it.
One of the dwarves is played by James Nesbitt, and I couldn't help but picture him in the Yellow Pages ads he did a while back. They are pretty funny, though ...
