  • I was disappointed for KC when I heard what had happened. I just listened to the clip and I knew even before listening that he would say that everything happens for a reason. He's a man of faith and he believes that everything that happens for him is for a reason. It might take a few years to see it, but I do believe good things will happen for him.

I know not everyone on here agrees with his faith, but his faith is part of what makes him such a tremendous young man. There is a bigger picture of his life that he can't see right now, but it wasn't a mistake that he ended up in D.C. And it will be fascinating to see how it all unfolds in the months and years ahead.

He grew up across the street from my best friend...WOTS is exactly what they've been saying publicly. That Cousins was too good to pass up.

  • I think Kirk needs to get down to Washington to find out what the 'Skins are thinking.

They certainly didn't use a fourth round pick on him because they thought he had no value, even if it's hard to understand what they want from him right now.

It is clear however that at least 31 teams thought he didn't have enough value as a starter. That can either be motivation or a reason to get depressed.

Kirk knows better than most that we are not in control. All we can control is how we respond.

  • This isn't a bad situation at all. Ideally going to a team with a veteran starter and working his way into the starting lineup 2-3 years from now would have been perfect. Getting picked by a crappy team expected to be the savior and getting hammered out of the league would have been the worst thing.

Captain Kirk has no pressure and can take the year to workout, study NFL film, learn the game from Shanahan who is a qb guru and then sign as a stud free agent down the road with another team or if RG3 is a bust- could end up with a long term career in DC.

Also have to love that they said he was too good to pass up.

  • It was a good interview. Dan made it pretty clear through his questions and his tone that he was disappointed by how far Kirk fell and by him going to the Redskins. He said straight up that Kirk is polished and has the tools to be a starting quarterback. All you have to do is listen to Kirk to know that he's still going to have a shot in the league. Massive credit to him for handling the questions about Denver and Philly with class. Really going to miss this guy.

I think we all were surprised how far he dropped. I'm hoping for a Schaub/Flynn type situation for him where in 2-3 he is a very sought after commodity.

I will be very curious to watch how this QB draft class develops on the pro level, see if it is just the kool-aid talking or if a lot of teams blew it.

Unless RG3 gets hurt, there is pretty much no chance KC will play this year. Washington will do everything they can do avoid a QB controversy, that includes making KC the 3rd string QB and allowing RG3 to play through any struggles.

KC1 will surprise a few people. RG3, not so much.

  • Kirk has a lot of skills. Not necessarily jaw dropping type of skills, but he understands the game very well. He also learned to play within his skill set, which is a problem for a lot of young NFL QBs.

Some of his best attributes are that he is smart, he works hard, and he has a mature approach to adversity. Also, don't discount the advantage that "clean living" is for any person, let alone a pro athlete that has tempatations and distractions at every turn. Kirk's focus will be 100% where it should be, and the Redskins know this.

While it is a bit odd that the Redskins took him, it's rarely a bad thing for a rookie QB to begin their career holding a clipboard. The NFL game is just so fast, and the defenses so complex, it takes some seasoning to find a comfort level on the field. I have no idea how this will turn out, but I think Kirk will end up taking full advantage of his opportunities, wherever they may be.

  • I think while everyone points to the lack of an established veteran QB to learn from, people forget about the coach. Shanahan is a proven winner in the league, with a pretty impressive list of HOF QBs ie Montana, Young, Elway.

  • I agree with the Flynn/Schaub/Cassel analyogy.....Kirk will get his chance, and a possible pay day down the road. But I really like RG3, the kid has worked very hard to get where he has. Saw a segment on NFL Network about how his dad used to train him, tying tires to his leg and having him try to run. I would assume this is about the last thing he expected to have to deal with. I hope it works out for both of them.....

  • I wouldn't feel too sorry for Kirk. Sometimes it's tougher to follow a star like Manning or Brees because you'll always be compared to them. When RG3 fails, the bar will be set low and Kirk will have very little pressure.

Also, even if he becomes a journey man back-up (which I doubt he will), that's not a bad life. I knew a career back-up NFL center and he explained it that he made $500,000 to 1 million a year for riding the pine, a $1 million signing bonus every 5 years, free travel, pension, health-care for life and was able to retire at the old age of 35. Stanton is headed for a similar scenario.

I bet kirk can throw through those tires a hell of a lot better.
