Craft Beer

  • On Short's:

Recently, I really enjoyed Cup A Joe Coffee Cream Stout. Their PB&J is growing on me, too.

Good Humans is a tremendous blend of brown and IPA.

Less impressed by Freedom of 78.

  • I've got some more West coast beer coming in shortly (Abyss, Consecration, etc.). Probably my last for a while; I am resolving to become a beer locavore in 2011.

  • I have a guy out of California who always has all of the Russian River beers in stock. I place orders with him monthly. If anyone wants his contact info let me know.

I just placed an order today with him. He is great and sometimes has some really rare stuff. He has a few of the Double Bastard Ale 3 liter bottles and I ordered one. Expensive but they are pretty damn cool bottles. I also ordered

    Bruery Rugbrod,
    Bruery 3 French Hens,
    Maui Brewing Coconut Porter
    Vertical Epic, dated 10/10/10,
    Alaskan Smoked Porter
    Ninkasi Oatis Oatmeal Stout
    Ninkasi Tricerahops Double IPA

These are just beers I havent tried.

I will do that. You still in the Farmington area?

Strike that.....I was looking at wrong username on BA.....

I see you like Black/Cascadian IPA's.....Kuhnhenn has Lunar Eclipse now which is a 11% dark ipa....wow it was good.

    I live in Fenton.

Yeah, I just can't get enough of a good Black IPA right now. It started with Arcadia's B-Craft limited release. I really like Stone's Sublimely Self-Righteous. Tried Shorts Bludgeon Your Eye but was underwhelmed. Looking for more.

I've been meaning to get down to Kuhnhenn. Interested in their Bourbon Barley wine and 4th Dementia as well

I'd be very interested in that info. And he'll ship to MI?

I am very interested as well (and my first thougt was exactly that...will he ship to MI). The more Russian River the better. I have a few contacts for their stuff but it has been very hit or miss lately.

Just enjoyed an Affligem Noel. Solid Belgian Christmas beer.

i've put down two of these in the last week. nice stuff.

I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?

Wow. Thats a big statement. I would love to try it. Can you take home anything they have?

I don't think they bottle it - had it on draft.

I assume you mean the Flying Buffalo Imperial Stout? If so, we had it at one of the MI beer festivals....the batch we had was "hot" and definitely needed some time to mellow and relax. I have heard that it is underrated in many beer circles.

After looking at their website, it appears to be a different beer, I might have to take a drive now....hmmmm.

I don't remember if it was the Flying Buffalo that was barrel aged in bourbon barrels - but I don't think they called it that. I've had Flying Buffalo and it is good, but not great. This beer was great.

  • I am not sure if he can/will ship to Michigan. I am in Austin Texas and he ships to me which I thought we couldn't have beer shipped to us. I sent him an email to ask. He has bottles of Pliny and Blind Pig for $4.50.

I will let you guys know.

By the way, can you subscribe to threads here yet ? I want to get emails when people respond to this one.

  • I'd like to know both as well (if he ships to MI and if we can subscribe to threads).

I'm not an incredibly active participant on BA thus far, but my user name is the same as here.

For those of you looking for a good black IPA, keep an eye out for Walldorff's double black IPA called Cobain's. It was the first of the variety I've ever had and I have yet to find another that matches it. I'm hoping that it wasn't a one time release, but I haven't seen it listed on their site since.

  • I just heard back from him. He does ship to Michigan. Now I have to find out a way to get his email address to you guys without posting it on the board.

  • I had a Dogfish Worldwide Stout (brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley).

My impression? Undrinkable. I shudder even thinking about it. I usually like stouts - but ... ?

    18% abv.

I don't have any idea how to drink it. In sips? Gulps?

  • Yesm normally TX and MI are on the naughty list of places that cannot be legally shipped to....but many still do it.

But I would welcome the information for your contact.

  • Have you tried drinking it closer to room temp ? A lot of those high ABV stouts are nasty when cold...let them warm up a little and the alcohol mellows out.

  • I'm with Sparty Truth on this one - not a very good beer, alcohol taste was way too much in the one I had. My recommendation is to have about 6-7 beers before you try it. A nice buzz will make it much easier to drink.

  • What kind of stouts do you normally drink? The flavors change quite a bit when you start to get into the really high ABVs. I had a worldwide stout last year and really enjoyed it. Its definitely not a beer you're going to gulp down and it should be closer to room temperature for the other flavors to catch up to the alcohol.

  • IMO Westy 12 is not as good as St. Bernardus 12. As far as 12s go, St. Bernardus is the best. The only reason it doesn't get rated above the Westy is because they lost their Trappist license.

Also, I agree on the Imperial Stouts. Try drinking those things closer to room temp. Maybe like 55-60 or so. Then they are very good. Ten Fidy is brutally expensive, but it's VERY good.
