DJ Dwayne Stephens finalist for Miami and Duquense -Valentine?

If DJ gets a coaching gig - and rumored to be in top spots for the above two, would Carlton Valentine be a perfect fit at MSU then? I hear he's an awesome coach and if you are goni to leave HS and get a job MSU has to be a top one..... Or is MSU to big and as to get someone out of college?

If carleton valentine were hired matt painter would probably assassinate tom izzo.

I think Bruce Weber would be a more realistic option

I've been wondering if Carleton would be a good college coach. It will be interesting to see where he lands now that Denzel is gone and Sexton's future ( as a high school) is up in the air.

I love the way Sexton plays. I also think Mike Thomas of K-Central is a remarkable young coach.

Wasn't Weber's downfall a result of his inability to land the stud Chicagoland recruit? How can that reflect favorably on Jerrance Howards?

I presume Weber is way too deep into his career to take an assistant position anywhere, especially when he could easily score a mid-major post.

I'm surprised we haven't heard more about colleges pursuing MSU assistant coaches after the season they had.
I don't like the idea of hiring Valentine this year because of appearances. In a couple years, that might be a good idea. But the fact is that being an assistant at MSU is one of the top jobs in the country, so we can probably hire a more high-profile coach.

Jerrance Howard is a highly regarded assistant. Weber started to get more Chicago kids once Howard was brought into the fold. Word is either Kansas or Kentucky is Howards next landing spot.

If HS coaches are the target You could beat Illinois to the punch and hire Robert Smith (Parkers coach) or bring Lou Dawkins back to Michigan.

Yeah when Michigan had Watson hired and on payroll his last two years at southwestern that looked bad. At least they finally made it semi legit when he came over with the two recruits he was on payroll with.

Good for Stephens.
The Miami job would be a good one. Replacing a retiring Charlie Coles and knowing Treadwell who could let him know where some of the potholes might be plus Ohio recruiting.
The Duquense job looks like a coach eater. Fire the last guy after 6 years and the A-10 is getting tougher.
If Stephens is fortunate enough to get a contract Izzo's office is probably already flooded with resumes just in case there is a vacancy. When Izzo goes to the Final Four aka the largest job fair in D1 he will get even more resumes handed to him.

IF DJ were to be hired away from MSU. I would think Izzo would look to hire someone that would work with the bigs. not sure who that would be.
