We're going to GA, TX, and FL to get guys who want to be Spartans. Guys who will work hard, buy into the program, and when they hit the field, out play the 4* guys who went to Michigan b/c they wanted to bask in the tradition.
That's the difference between the two programs and why I think MD will continue to succeed. He's recruiting talent that is willing to work hard and develop into the best possible player they can be. The 2* guy coming out of high school, who two years later everyone is amazed by, was not a 4* guy everyone overlooked. He was a 2* guy that had the potential and desire to work so that when he hit the field in his RS sophomore year was as good or better than the guys at his position who were ESPN Top 150 coming out of high school.
And over time MD has been able to get start getting more high-3*, 4*, and occasional 5* guys who have the same drive and desire to get better, which has upgraded the programs talent and depth considerably. That has the potential to scare off some talented players who think they do not need to, or do not want to work hard. Why go bust my ass at MSU when I can take my 4*s to Michigan and be a star? And how many of those 4* guys has Michigan gotten in recent years that have not lived up to the hype/potential?
That is why I think we keep winning on the field even if we do not win the recruiting rankings battle. The culture of the program MD has built at MSU is what will sustain it over the years.

The scUMmers have been manufacturing stories about Dantonio leaving for years. He's not retiring any time soon. Dantonio is only 56 -- if that is a retiring age for a football coach then why not talk about it for Hoke with him being 53?
As for moving on, well, he didn't even consider the opening at Ohio State though scUM fan boys will probably try to start Dantonio to South Carolina rumors when Spurrier is done there, but again, even as much as someone loves his alma mater, it doesn't seem likely especially after building up MSU's program.
The scUMmers could be counting on health since Dantonio did have a heart attack, and they are classless enough to wish ill-will on someone's health but shouldn't they also be worried about their obese coach who struggles through press conferences like he is a fish out of water gasping for air?
