Dating someone you work with

  • So I just got hired as a key grip on Sara Jean Underwoods new show. And she asked me out. I shouldnt do it?

  • It's a magnificently terrible idea.

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

You're in college. The window of opportunity to drink and do drugs and take advantage of young girls is getting smaller by the day.

  • If you don't work closely with her then I say go for it. I started dating my wife when we worked together. We worked in different departments and rarely actually had to work together.

  • If it is a temporary type of job, by all means go ahead, or if she is worth the headache of gossip/taking fights to work, etc, otherwise about a good 70% ends miserably

It worked for a couple of my friends but the job gives them a lot of freedom, but then again I also saw it fail horribly for another friend where it led him to get the boot

(It helps if you are working in different departments)

  • There's a reason the saying "Don't shit where you eat" exists.

Then again, a man's gotta get laid.

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

  • My advice, don't.

But if you do... Just understand if/when shit hits the fan, you have to handle it like a man and have extreme tunnel vision. No feeling sorry for yourself, no gossip, no fights at work, ect. That's when your work suffers and you end up getting sh*tcanned.

Real job. I outrank her by quite a bit, but we never really work together. I maybe run into her once a day.

Well, she might not work for you right now, but what if the company re-orgs (happens constantly now). It might cause problems down the road for one or usually both of you.

I say if you don't care what happens to your career 3 years down the road, go for it.

Are there no bars or other places to meet females where you live?

I guess if you and the girl are both serious and ready to settle down it shouldn't be problematic.

However, if you're trying to just get some pussy for a little while before moving onto the next one and she's trying to settle down and have a relationship, there will eventually be a situation that impacts your work.

This. If it's a small office where you have to work together or even near each other then it's not the best idea. If it's a massive company and she is no where near you, then why not? I worked at a large corporation and I dated more than one woman there. Yet I didn't work directly with them or even in the same office area. Running into them afterwards was a rare occurrence.

edit: although I guess the title is date someone you work with. If you actually do work with her (sounds like you sort of do) and just not at the same company, then yeah, bad idea.

  • I met my wife while she was an intern and I had just graduated from State for a few years. We worked in different departments so it was fine. I will say after it got real serious it was weird to live together, drive to work together, see each other once in a while at work, drive home together, etc. I got nervous once we got engaged that based on industry it might be a bad idea to have all our eggs in one basket, so I left and went somewhere else to work.

It's probably a bad idea overall, but if she's worth it go for it. If she's nothing more special than you can get at the bar then obviously pass.

    Oh and no pics.

  • Hey if it can work at Dunder Mifflin, than it could work for you. I say go for it, make your home life and work life miserable

  • My better half is someone I met at work. Don't do it!!!! The stress is to much. I have since gone to a different company but we still work with a lot of the same vendors in the area. When you go home from work you both constantly want to talk about work. You sit in bed and not even realize you are still discussing work. It's like your work day never ends.

  • It's not the relationship that will be the issue. It's the impending breakup and having to see each other at the workplace each day. I say no.

  • Even if both of you are unusually mature, and even if both of you never bring drama to the office, and even if you knew that neither of you would have your career negatively affected, there is another reason it's a bad idea:

You get no real break from eachother, or your jobs. Each time you're at work, the biggest part of "home" is just down the hall. Each time you go home, "work" is sitting at the dinner table with you. It creates a Groundhog Day scenario even under the best of circumstances.

  • I worked at a Meijer during my junior year of high school. I fooled around with a cashier there who attended another high school. Then I found out she was a slut. That summer was the best summer of my life and the time in my life where I learned that you date some chicks and others just want to get wasted and screw.

  • I need some pics of her before I give advice on this.

  • You got to bang her out once to make sure it is worth any sort of hassle going forward. Take for for a test drive, if she is a high performance vehicle then look to make an arrangement. If she is just an econobox pass and hunt down the better piece you deserve.

  • I married someone I worked with. Best move I ever made. Kind of a different situation though because she was kind of the "seasonal help." We waited to start dating until she went back to school. But the next season she came back and I was more or less her manager. It kind of sucked but we made it work. I still wouldn't recommend it in an office setting unless you think she is something special or she works on another floor or something.
