Delany backs "Top Six" playoff model, UM opposes playoff

  • You think all these men were assholes their whole lives? Or did every one with any type of control of the college football scene just become a greedy asshole after they got the job?

The BCS in its current state is not good for the B1G as witnessed by the abortion of a game that was Michigan vs. Virginia Tech.

Agree it was an abortion game but UM was the 2nd team in from the B10 and because we share revenue that means it was a huge success for the B10. I know everyone hates Delaney but the current system is very friendly to us with the rose bowl and at larges. We have a lot to lose.

  • I am hearing that there will be a push to replace the BCS Formula with the college basketball RPI formula. If that the case, then I think it would reward the Big Ten more as they are getting away from the cupcake non conference schedule.

I was talking about a situation where you get a 4 loss South Carolina team coming into the SEC championship and beating a previously undefeated, top 2 Alabama team (so at that point Bama would be a 1 loss team). In my humble opinion, Alabama is still deserving of a spot in the Football Four because they've proven over the course of the season that they are one of the best four teams.

What kind of logic is this? If they lost to a 4-loss SC team, then no, they are not one of the best four teams and do not deserve a spot.

  • Anything less than 8 teams is not a good idea and is not really any better than the current shitty system.

This is exactly what we need to make an 8+ team playoff as awesome as it can be!!

The committee will take a look at this and analyze the loss along with the other teams' losses. They may are may not deserve a spot in the 4 team playoff...but we can't make an absolute statement about a scenario that we only know one data point about.

  • I'm sick of the "wants to incorporate the bowls in the new format." crap. Why? Because the ADs get vacations and parties? Who gives a shit about the Fiesta or Orange bowl. What do they offer? These bowls have been taking money from schools for years. Why are ADs bending over backwards to keep these fucks involved? Someone should stand up and tell the bowl execs "Each school gets 2000 tickets for players families / administrators / band / Johnny Spirit free of charge and the schools are under no obligation to pay for unsold tickets out of their allotment. Take it or leave it." What are the bowls gonna do? Say no?

Agree. 8 teams. Put in the conference champs and let the polls or selection committee pick a couple of other schools (non AQ, Notre Dame, great conference team that didn't win it's championship).

I think this is where the whole system is headed anyway. Once the money starts rolling in from a 4 team playoff, they are going to try to expand it to 8 teams to make even more money.

The bowl system is doomed. Good riddance.

Personally, I want the best teams in the championship/final four no matter what. In most cases, I'm guessing that if Team A beats Team B twice, Team B isn't going to make the final four anyway because they won't be ranked high enough (how about Football Four? I'm coining it)...so it's not an issue. If Team A and Team B split their games, then the matchup in the Football Four becomes pretty damn compelling.

Some people may say, well, Team A and Team B played once and Team A won...so B doesn't deserve another shot. But again, you have to look at the full season performance and get the best four in there...even if one team has already beat another, which is what we had this year.

    Is this an act question?

Bama and LSU were far and away the 2 best teams last year. Who do you think was better than either of them?

I don't know how that can actually be proven....without relying completely on opinion.

  • How pissed are we going to be when MSU finishes third this year, the year before the new system is in place?

Meh, in that case, the dry January air in Pasadena would be more than enough to dry tears over that one.

Believe it or not, the rest of the country think Michigan is a bigger joke then we do. If he can get the BCS formula dropped for the RPI that college hoops uses, then IMO he wins.

we need to eliminate the non-AQ from this conversation altogether systematically. Give them their own national championship playoff to compete in. There are not any programs in the non-AQ conferences that are worthy of competing on the big stage...not anymore now that Boise, TCU, Utah, and even Houston are part of AQ conferences now.

The NCAA doesn't make a cent from the current system and that doesn't change under the new plan.

Pretty sure the conference lost money overall on Michigan's participation in the Sugar bowl. Delany had to cut them a check for 375K to cover the cost of their 4500 unsold tickets. The college football postseason is a ponzi scheme and nothing about this new system would change that.

  • No one outside of the SEC and USC will win a title as long as the SEC is allowed to operate under different standards than the rest of the country.

They already have oversigning and having the best talent around them plus low academic standards; it's not even fair.

Honestly, most Big Ten teams should set their sights on winning the Big Ten title because most years our best will lose to theirs. It's not the skill positions, it's the lines and lbs.
