Btw, I think he gets off anyway. With the Stand Your Ground law in place and Zimmerman there to testify and Martin not, don't think they'll be able to build a case, even with that voice analysis. At least it's being properly investigated now though.

It doesn't matter what happens in court. If Zimmerman came out and said "I shot him because he is black" people like Ed would still claim the media was trying to make it a racial thing and how Zimmerman could never get a fair trial.

I believe Martin in 6' 0" and Zimmerman is 5' 9". What happened was the media started putting up a picture of Martin when he was 12 years old and that helped fuel the outrage over this incident. It appears both individuals were suspicious of each other and somehow it escalated into the tragic death of an unarmed teenager walking home. We should let it play out in the court of law because we don't know all the facts.

Hispanic is not considered a race by most (government) definitions. It is an ethnicity. I have no effing clue as to the "whys", but you have race and ethnicity. The question that you quote is for ethnicity.

The census form is the only one that uses that definition to my understanding, and only do it for record-keeping purposes, that's to say it's not what is considered its usage in common, everyday practice. On his voter registration it asked for "race" and he replied Hispanic ( so Zimmerman himself describes his own race as Hispanic, and who is anybody else to argue otherwise), so that's one form that proves the opposite of what you are saying.

Honestly I don't think he shot him because he was black. I think he followed him because he was black and because he's a vigilante wannabe-cop with issues and he created a situation he wasn't ready for and paniced and now a kid walking home is dead. I aslo think if the Sanford PD had launched a real investigation right away this wouldn't even have been an issue. I, also, can't for the life of me figure out why this thing is somehow political (right vs left) or why you have to be racist to fall on one side or the other. Either you think Zimmerman fucked up or you don't, I personally think he did. Which I guess makes me a racist lefty.

I agree with you. I don't think Zimmerman fired the gun over the color of Trayvon's skin. My point was in the context that people like Ed, and many others, have developed this "we don't know what happened and due to the media's coverage we are going to take the view that this was not racially motivated in any way and Trayvon was the aggressor." By doing this they get to completely ignore the racial problems we do have in this country, of which there are many, and ignore the problems we have with fire arms. I think that's where politics come in.

I don't think you can blame the media because this story has struck a cord with people. The media, in today's world, have to sell themselves and reporting on stories that obtain viewers is the only way to do so. The Martin Tragedy, and no matter the side you are on it is a tragedy anytime a person is killed, appeals to many many people.
