Diablo 3

  • couldn't resist any longer, got it this weekend. i have a level 12 barb, and just started a monk.

    at 1920x1080, with anti-aliasing, i'm getting 55 to 75 fps on a set of crossfired 3850s, with a phenom II X4.

What kind of Mac and how old? Not all Macs are built the same. Sure, Diablo 3 has really low graphics requirements, but if you are trying to run it on a macbook with integrated graphics from a couple years ago then you might have issues.

Since you don't already have Windows on the machine I can assume you don't game on it regularly.

I am using a 13" MacBook Pro that is from mid 2010.

    Specs:
2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor
    4GB Ram
    NVIDIA GeForce 320M

I was only getting between 10-20 FPS at best while playing in the Mac OS. The game still ran, but it was by no means smooth and it was difficult to play. There have been quite a few complaints and threads on the blizzard site detailing the poor performance people have been experiencing on Macs. Blizzard has actually deleted quite a few of the threads because they are trying to keep things cool until they can get a patch out.

I finished installing Windows 7 on the partition and reinstalling D3 yesterday, and I was getting MUCH better results. I was able to play on the highest resolution and have pretty high settings for everything else and still get 40 - 50 FPS. The only thing I had to still have changed was shadows off and low on a few of the other settings.

If you are playing on a Mac check out your FPS by pressing ctrl+R when you are playing and see what you are getting. You may be totally fine, which would be great, but you may find it isn't running as well as you think. My buddy is playing on a completely tricked out Mac desktop used for video editing and he can play in OSX, but he still doesn't get great performance. He is now going to switch over to windows for D3 until they patch.

  • Pretty much addicted to this game. Loving it. trying to go through alone 1 time with a Wizard. Not that easy really.

Havent played any public matches yet, just waiting for my friends to pick it up. Then i'll hit co-op

  • For those of you with a not so great computer and don't have the money to buy a new one (like me...just got a new laptop last year...don't have money for a pc), here are some settings that are known to work on a mac-book air. Briefly: "My computer specs: 1.7GHz Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics 3000 384MB

My preferred Diablo III settings: Fullscreen, 1440x900, 150 FPS (foreground), 30 FPS (background), Low texture quality, Low shadow quality, Low physics, Low clutter density, Anti-Aliasing on. (The game defaulted to higher settings, which I also tested in the video; it introduced minor lag in some enemies and support characters)"

I run mine (an hp pavilion dm4 with similar or slightly better computer specs) basically the same way and it works fine. However, I just make sure my fans are getting proper ventilation space as they are running pretty hot (a cooling pad might not be a bad idea).

Diablo III Runs Fine on My MacBook Air

Owners of MacBook Airs, if you have the 13-inch that I have, youre fine. Diablo III will run on it and be perfectly playable. Take a look at the video here to see it run on my late-2011 Air at both default settings and low settings.

I have a 25 barb that I have done everything alone except Act2 boss Belial. I got to the part where he transforms into the huge boss and realized it would be overly hard to do on my own so I did co-op for that and now I am back on my own in Act3.

  • Finished normal difficulty last night with my buddy and started nightmare.

Avoiding the auction house because you can get really good gear for way too cheap (only playing with stuff either of us find or craft)

He isn't too bad as long as you are equipped to replenish your health and you move around. I had a level 26 wizard and used the templar to defeat him. Took a couple tries once u know what to do its not too bad.

    The Monarch

  • I have a level 38 monk, playing through on Nightmare now. That Belial fight isn't too bad for a monk. Use Sanctuary to go invincible for a short time and heal (or breath of heaven for some healing if you don't have sanctuary yet). Seven Sided Strike makes you invincible and does decent damage. That one kick secondary attack with the first rune does good damage as well. You can set yourself up to gain health whenever you use spirit too.

I don't do much damage per hit but the monk is pretty much un-killable.

  • Right now I am playing through normal with a buddy on act 3. He has a 27 barb and I have a 27 WD, and the combo seems to own. He is able to tank and draw the monsters to him in groups while I spam lots of damage in the crowd. It is also nice because we are able to move pretty quickly and level up fast. Hope to wrap up act 3 tonight and move on to nightmare.
