I don't mind the down vote for this post, but I would love to discuss the point of contention. I enjoy discussing these types of things.

Keep the down votes coming, I just wish you weren't too scared to discuss it. lol

I don't see the allure of WoW. I played it for a year or two

    Going to redo this:

I enjoyed WoW when I first joined it, it was my first MMO and leveling up/discovering things were fun. Then the grinding started to get to 60. After that things were still new to me (raiding), and BC came out (so I get to see a new area), but that excitement fizzled out fast when in reality it was exactly teh same game. I admittedly played it for a while, but I let it go one for too long, and by then I just rode out what I played for.

I can see why people like it, but only for so long (as with most games); especially with Kung Fu Panda being a playable race now.

I didn't downvote (I like to save my precious few), but they're two very different games, you can't fully compare them. Yes they're RPG's, and yes they're online, but they're still VERY different styles.

I didn't figure it was you as we were having a nice little discussion. Originally I was just trying to figure out what was down-vote worthy and then they down-voted my request, lol.

I agree on the styles, very different. I am fully expecting WoW to be a quiet place tomorrow when D3 launches. I know a lot of people in WoW that are dropping it and switching over to D3.

For the record, Warcraft II - not World of Warcraft but the Warcraft RTS in 1995 - had pandas in it long before the Jack Black movie. You may know that but I'm certain others do not.

If it's like D2, then it's just like single player only with more people in it, and the monsters get stronger. Loot is just thrown on the ground up for grabs, which is frustrating as hell sometimes, but can be nice depending on the people or if you're with friends.

I played the mage, who was fun (I always play magic characters), but the Demon Hunter or whatever was OP as hell, nothing stood a chance to live long, or if it did, it oculdn't get close to me.

I'm pretty sure D3 has separate loot for each player?

  • I like the auto-loot thing for D3. Ahhh the memories of playing D1 and hearing a ring drop and hit the ground and then trying to find it. lol

He got me, too. Down voted for not loving a computer game. lol It's funny how grandma's basement can affect your thinking.

So, it's okay to like one and not the other, then? It would be kind of silly to like one and not as much the other if they were the same game, no?

Hehe, I got down-voted on each of those 3 posts. I'm not a blind follower of Blizzard and I don't believe they are infallible. I know those words are poison to the fanboi brain-washed types, but that is just too bad. I am also not a hater, but so many game players seem to either be one or the other, a little bit like Demand Excellencers and Sunshine Blowers, lol

I have no idea how to do multi quote. I don't know, I didn't play multiplayer at all, just single player, which was exactly like D2 in that everything falls to the ground and you grab it while you can.

    There is no multiquote.

Ah, ok. Yes, there is separate drops for each player in a co-op game, so nobody has to battle for or divvy up loot. And gold pickup is automatic, which really cuts down on the clicking.

  • Looking forward to this game and playing through the quest with a few characters!

    Some random thoughts :

Games have gotten so devious and scientific about how they are "fun"

I find the culture a little crazy once the only advancement you can make is what gear you can randomly grind for. After you get to level 60 ("when the real hardcore game starts") the game really just turns into a Skinner Box, seeing how many times you'll play the same runs over and over again to get treats... Err... Better equipment.

Listening to some of developer interviews really drives home that addiction psychology, is heavily involved in game-making these days... But at least Diablo is better than the hugely profitable Zynga facebook games, where there is no story or gameplay... just social networking trying to get you to open their app and get as much site traffic as possible.

  • 13 hours until release and 16 hours until servers open. Let the grinding begin...

  • Okay, started playing Diablo 3. 1) Server crashes, galore. Since you have to be connected to even play the single player, a server crash effs you up. One time, I got to level 3 of the dungeon at the end of Act 3--server crash. Even though I had passed a couple of checkpoints, I had to start from the top of the dungeon when (after hours of waiting) the server finally came back online. 2) The game is too eff'n easy. I finally quit during Act IV. It was simply click, die--MFers. No strategy needed. I died less than 10 times the whole time I played. It simply became boring. You just walk through and click--you dead, click you'all dead. Rinse, repeat. No depth, the story is thin, and in the end, a waste of time. Even fanboys are having trouble defending this POS (read the forums--which I did during the multiple server crashes).

I find the online requirement to be f**king stupid for a gamer. I guess I understand they don't want to have the game pirated, but it sucks for us playing it. The lag it causes sometimes makes the game unplayable.

As for the difficulty, when you kick it up to nightmare difficulty, it definitely gets harder, though there is still a lot of point and clicking. It's not tactical like Baldur's Gate.

    ELCutter

  • Most folks I know that were playing it (about 2 dozen) have shelved it and returned to their other game - usually an MMORPG. It was fun at first but the repetition of the exact same thing became a worse grind than factions in WoW.

i hit 60 on the barbarian and have one toon in every other class at 35+. except for co-op with friends, i can't see me touching it again.

Play the game on inferno difficulty ... you will probably die 10 times on the first elite pack.

That being said... I played up through Act 2 on inferno, and just got bored and quit. The game becomes one giant gear check and you pretty much HAVE to spend hours on the auction house buying and selling gear to be able to play through inferno. The other part that of the game that is total crap are all the "hot fixes" blizzard has implemented. One great example of this is people being able to beat a boss by fighting him for a while and wearing him down. Blizzard doesn't like this for whatever reason so they "fix" the boss with an enrage timer. Now, if you don't kill the boss within 3 minutes he will instantly kill you. Yeah, that is good game design and tons of fun.

This. I got a barb to 60 and into act 2 inferno and just couldn't do it anymore. Die instantly on elites and end up with 20k plus repair bills. I thought it my be the barbs style with fighting up close so I made a demon hunter and am in act 2 inferno and same shit. It is completely a gear based game and to get good gear you need millions in gold. Blizzard really effed shit up with the new patch, inferno is just too hard unless you pay US dollars to get millions of gold to get good gear with. I like the game but am just bored with dying instantly. Eh, only a couple more days until NCAA 13 comes out, then no more diablo.
