Wet brain and a Dry Drunk. If you drink enough, it can cause what is called wet brain, he killed enough brain cells, plus with the COPD a lack of oxygen to the brain. Dry Drunk is an alcoholic who has quit drinking but is effing miserable, and in a lot of peoples opinions just as bad as a practicing alcoholic. Of course this is just my opinion and I could be way off. But years of smoking and drinking does bad things to the body, then when someone quits and is not ready to or doesn't want to, they become irritable. The memory is probably caused by years of drinking I have seen it, and it is not pretty.

Alzheimer's. People know what's going on in the early stages and they do their best to cover it up and hide it. Eventually they lose their buffer and unfortunately at that point they don't have much time left.

I was in the USN with a Chief who was told to stop drinking if he wanted to leg out his 30 years (he had less than 18 months left to hit 30) . I don't know if he drank like your uncle but he was a vodka drinker who had liquid lunches and was a regular at the Senior Enlisted Club every evening.

He didn't make it to 30 years. He quit and that was the first time I had ever heard of wet brain. Not only was his liver too far gone, he hadn't been eating, just drinking too long.

Sounds like an autosomal recessive disorder. Just out of curiosity, what do his teeth look like?

Korsakoff's was my first instinct. Alcoholic with memory loss and emotional change. Not good if that's the case.

Edit: Get the man some thiamine supplements if he decides to drink again.

Hansen's disease combined with hydrophobia.

He had some vision issues at one point as well. Was going to therapy for it. Not sure of that is related or not.

AIDS Cancer. He has cancer on his AIDS.
