    Thanks Wikipedia!

Monday - A black person. Popularized by Russell Peters stand up at Def Jam

Other racial slurs I never knew about: Abbie, Abe, and Abie - a Jewish male ABC - American-born Chinese, a term used to refer to Chinese people who were born in the United States. Ann - a black woman who acts too much like a white one. Brownie - a person of mixed white and black ancestry Cheese-eating surrender monkey - a Frenchman Coconut - a person of Hispanic descent who's accused of acting white. Peckerwood - a slur that was used through the mid 20th century by southern African Americans and upper class whites used to describe poor rural whites. It is still used mostly by African Americans against White people.

  • Until Izzo Court posted the Wiki definitions, I was saying it is all BS. No way could "Monday" be used as a racial slur.

But I guess it is. However I maintain it is not widely used, and something got misinterpreted or misheard in this incident. I bet "monkey" was the word actually used, IF the person was being a racist dick.

Once as an undergrad someone called me a Tuesday. I'm white. So you know shit went down!

IRL, until this thread, I had no idea that the name of a day of the week could be construed as offensive to anyone.

All this does is confirm to me that people from Boston come up with the stupidest fucking words or phrases.

  • In a report to Manchester police officials, Sgt. Scott Fuller recounted his conversation with an unnamed spectator, who told Fuller he was a Leominster police officer.

“Officer (Steve) Maloney asked what he said, and the Leominster officer stated that he did not say anything bad but yelled to Crawford that he was “overrated” and a “Monday,” the report reads.

“Officer Maloney told him that was unusual and asked what a “Monday” was or meant. I am paraphrasing, but the Leominster officer stated to Officer Maloney that the term “Monday” was meant to indicate a form of dislike. He stated something to the effect “you know, nobody likes a Monday” referring to the day of the week.”

The following day, Fuller undertook an Internet search and found out that “Monday” can be used as a racial slur. The memo was written three days ago, days after media reported that a Leominster police officer was responsible for using a racial slur against Crawford.

Yeah, and right after the guy shouted "overrated" at Crawford, Crawford hit a triple. right Keep ya racist mouth out of New Hampshire, schmuck.

Edit: I'm sorry, it was "overpaid." See video at the bottom.

Alleged slur uttered at Crawford in NH traced to Mass. police officer | New Hampshire NEWS

A Leominster, Mass., police officer is under investigation to determine whether he called Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford a racial slur during a New Hampshire Fisher Cats game in Manchester last week. Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella confirmed that an investigation is ongoing and that the officer, who was not identified, has been assigned to desk duty.

  • i mentioned this and my coworker said he knew it was a slur. he said that it's because black people don't like to work on monday and then told me that if i rode the bus on Monday compared to Thursday I'd see a big difference.

Today i learned my coworker is a racist.

"Might get fired"? If you'd even read the headline of the link in OP's post, you would have seen the officer in question was placed on paid leave.

Crawford was a bad signing, and people said so at the time. The Red Sox management's mistake in contract offer is no reason to start tossing racial slurs, period. Your sarcasm is misplaced.

    Oh. My bad.

So your point is it's wrong to be fired for using a racial slur. I understand now.

  • Many years ago, people used to say "Don't buy a car that was built on a Monday" with the inference that all the autoworkers were still hung over from the weekend. Maybe this is where the words "Monday" and "lazy" became associated.

I think its wrong to get fired for something that 99% of the population wouldn't consider a racial slur. Also its not like he was on duty pulling someone over. He was at a baseball trying to get into a players head.

He knew it was a racial slur, and Crawford knew (which was, of course, the point of directing it at Crawford). That's two people right there who knew what it meant.

Like it or not, public employees are held to standards befitting their professions whether they've punched the clock or not. And that's with a union.

I'm not saying I think the officer will or should get fired (I figure he gets reinstated at the hearing with a note in his file). I do think it's crap to shout racial slurs -- at anyone -- anywhere -- for any reason.

Let's not leave out the fact, BTW, that the guy is from the Boston area, and Crawford plays for the Boston Red Sox. You don't really think the officer was heckling Crawford because he wanted the Manchester Fisher Cats (a Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) to have a better chance of beating the Portland Sea Dogs (a Boston Red Sox affiliate), do you? No. He was heckling Crawford because of the ridiculous contract Crawford signed with the officer's favorite team, and the officer took it on on Crawford in the form of racial abuse. Not cool.

I am missing the part where the officer knew it was a racial slur. Is that outside information from the articles linked?
