Didn't realize how truly special tMW is until I moved back.

the Midwest is pretty lame imo. Lots of fat chicks & terrible weather.

I'll take the Southwest over the midwest any day of the week.

Phoenix is the douchebag capitol of US.

Good thing the people that stay in the Midwest are tougher than you, and don't have a dump truck's worth of sand in their vagina and can therefore handle weather that changes and makes for great winter activities. Because it's those kind of people that make the Midwest great.

Enjoy skiing 350 foot landfills. I love MI just as much as anyone in the summer and fall, but the long gray winter sucks. I am glad the weather is starting to get nice up there. I have been enjoying the sun and beach for months.

All these people bagging on the Midwest are just bitter they can't get a job back here

Once again, I'll take a sunset over lake Michigan than over miles and miles of barren desert sand and random tumbleweeds and a cactus....at 100 degrees at sunset

    Bwhahaha keep tellin yourself that.lol

And if I wanted to see snow, I'd just head up to Flagstaff AZ and go skiing/snowboarding there.

But yeah I guess my friends and I(that are all from the Midwest) are just bitter cause we cant find work in the midwest, so we all headed west. Yep, thats it.loco

Are you within an hour and a half from any great lake or any decent lake anywhere in AZ? Hell I don't think there are any natural lakes in TX. I guess it depends what you are into, but I love to hunt and fish and nothing compares overall to Michigan when it comes to that. Maybe Western Montana, but the plain States are even colder then MI.

I'm heading back from AZ too and I bet we are not talking like this in January. I love summer and fall in tMW but Jan-Apr blows and AZ is beautiful then. Can't have it all I suppose.

I'm glad I spent 5 years in PHX. It was a fun place to make a pit stop. There is nothing like being closer to family though. When a man looks back upon his life, he shouldn't think about all the time he got to sun bathe. He should think about all he has accomplished, the good friends he has made, and how much time he had with his family and loved ones.

My reasoning also. Both places are great in their own way so I find it hilarious when people bag on PHX or Detroit because they are both great places. Frankly I wish I could spend Jan-April in Phx and the rest of the year in MI. Temps are great and scorpions are hibernating that time of year.

  • I the last 6 mos I was in chicago for thanksgiving/msu game. It was cold gray and raining. Then I went to GR/ Lansing For Christmas. Freezing, gray and no snow. Winter sports were out. Came back to Detroit end of March, raining, gray, cold and no snow. Don't think I am missing out much. For real winter sports I am out west in 3 hours. Total trip time like driving from Detroit to Traverse City with no traffic. I agree you cant beat MI in the summer and fall.

Hey do you like living in Phoenix? Because you've never ever brought it up on this board before.
You remind me of douchebags I know who are constantly posting the temperature in Tempe on Facebook in the winter. Why do people who live out there feel the need to brag about living there all of the time?

  • Graduated from MSU last spring and been working in the Kzoo area for about a year now, I'm definitely feeling the urge to get out of the midwest for a while. Don't get me wrong, I love the midwest... but seeing as I've only ever lived in northern Indiana (South Bend area) or Michigan (Niles/Edwardsburg, EL, Kzoo) I feel now is a good time to go west and see if I like it there.

Nothing wrong with some variety while you're still young enough and have very few ties to any particular area. I'd imagine eventually I may end up coming back. Assuming I can land a job somewhere else in the first place.

They do it because they assume everyone thinks exactly like they do. They simply don't understand that some people like cold weather and things like snow. They think that by bragging about the weather in the winter, that we will care and will be jealous. It's impossible for them to understand that some of us like it where we are. They just assume everyone wishes they lived somewhere warm.

If the only thing you miss in MI is East Lansing then you are better off being in another state.

I did the same thing 4 years ago and it just got to the point where my wife and I had a kid and traveling became extremely difficult and expensive. Not sure where you're looking to go, but everywhere has it's good and bad. We are looking forward to coming back and raising the kids with family close by, but I'm not about to bash Arizona because it's an awesome place to live December - May.

PHX was nice for 5 years. I met a lot of good people, but the only thing that would ever bring me back would be a wedding or MSU in the fiesta bowl. I've never seen the intrigue of vacationing in the desert when you could go somewhere with an ocean instead. A lot of my friends in Phoenix who are content either have family who moved out there, or their spouse has family there. Others professionally are not able to move away. I feel very fortunate that I am able to make a decent living pretty much anywhere in the country and was able to hand pick where I wanted to move.

  • I am not sure how people can rip on the weather here. I'll take distinct seasons over "Really hot fucking summer and not as hot summer." down south.

Also, i god. damn. love. snow. So fuck off with that nonsense.
