Disney to buy Lucasfilm for $4.05 bil, SW Episode VII in 2015

I kinda wonder what George Lucas is going to do with $2 billion.

Buy a one bedroom condo in SF. rimshot

  • If I had a pretty neat idea that I conceived 40 years ago, that still makes me money, and a company offered to buy it for $2 billion plus shitloads of shares, I think I wouldn't give a shit what people think afterwards. Haha.

I watched the whole thing (Part 1 anyway). It's funny, but it's actually a great analysis of what was wrong with that movie, there just wasnt anyone to root for.

  • I'm not sure which Plinkett review it's in, but his point about the new lightsaber battles is spot on. The new fights are stupid, they're all choreographed to maximize the number of spins the characters can do.

I hope Disney takes the series back to the original trilogy style. And I really mean that, something a la JJ Abrams and "Super 8" where everything down to the cinematography was a throwback to 80's Spielberg movies. I want a "Super 8" treatment of the franchise.

And I already said it, but I really hope they eventually remake the prequels to match the OT style too.

The farting birds will stop when the crappy topics do

The Thrawn trilogy would be amazing. I don't see how they could do it though, everyone is too old now. There's not enough studio magic over at ILM to get Harrison Ford looking that young.

Yeah, they've got a tough choice.......probably why Lucas didn't want to touch it at this point.

    They can:

    A) Bring back the cast (Ford, Hammel, Carrie Fischer, Billy D)........except they'd be really old, and you'd have to move the plot forward 25-30 years. Who knows if any of them would even want to do it.

    B) Place it 5-10 years after ROTJ.........but recast all the characters. Seems like a hard sell to replace Harrison Ford as Han Solo with somebody else......etc.

    C) Move it 50 years down the road.....with new characters......and fill in the blanks of what happened with the original characters.

Yeah, the style is a little odd but he makes many great points. The episode 2 review is great also.

    Episode 1; The Clone Wars
Episode 2: Anakin turns into Darth Vader
Episode 3: Darth Vader and the Emperor start the Empire.

That would have been so much better. No Jar Jar, No completely CGI battles, No Yoda using lightsabers. And lots and lots of Natalie Portman

  • The worst thing about all this...say goodbye to things like Robot Chicken Star Wars and Family Guy Star Wars. I know those have essentially been completed (they do have Star Wars: Detours coming out though and that involves those guys). George Lucas was really cool with other people using his characters recently. No way in hell Disney allows it. There of course can always be spoofs since you don't need approval to do that, but nothing like those shows did or Detours. Disney is way more protective of their IP.

I'd imagine that deals could still be made, but you're talking three different conglomerates there...

  • I work for Disney, and Star Wars aside, I'm thrilled that ILM and Skywalker Ranch are now properties. Those two business units are the best at what they do.

Bob Iger is taking the company to new heights.

Time to adjust the 401k stock buy-in.

  • I saw the first of the "new" Star Wars movies when it came out, I think around 1999 or something, and it was so fucking bad that I never had any interest in seeing the remaining movies. They were fucking atrocious. Star Wars 7 is just a money grab. I have my doubts that Hollywood could ever produce another film like the original Star Wars and the sequel. The Ewoks one was fucking retarded. Every time I see that movie I imagine George Lucas sitting around all happy playing with the Ewoks like a kid playing with dolls and being a pussy. Fucking stupid.

Episode 3 was good. The prequels mostly sucked because Lucas had complete control. He is a visionary and idea man, not a director or producer. We might finally get the Star Wars movies that we deserve, I'm sure Disney will throw whatever money is necessary to make it happen. I think we should get cameos from the original cast, with Mark Hamill being the only one that is featured predominately in the story.
