Disturbing news on the Asian Carp in Illinois River (SIU/MSU)

  • These things are going to ruin Lake MI sport fishing.

For the life of me I cannot figure out why the US Dept of Ag didn't ban their importation until 2010 when it was know they were decimating the Mississippi fisheries. I cannot understand the Feds haven't stepped in and stopped the production of Big Head Carp/Asian Carp from places like the fish farm in Peru IN that is still growing this swimming rat for import into Canada as food.

Just give places like Sweet Water Springs Fish Farms in Peru IN a choice. Go out of business or take a one time buyout and a government approved cleaning of the farm to eradicate the Asian carp. The buyout would also cover the costs of the first 2 shipments of trout, US catfish or other indigenous species.

Extent of Illinois' Asian carp problem detailed

Asian carp now make up more than 60 percent of the total fish biomass in one of Illinois' major river systems.

This is a good point. We have to keep in mind that the only players at the federal level are elected officials, and that we don't have a federal bureaucracy full of unelected officials (with some being relevant to this issue) that play a role in the policy process.

I was in shedd's aquarium yesterday and checked out their Asian carp display. It was disturbing. If we lose sports fishing in lake Michigan imagine the gulf disaster from two years ago for those states and multiply it by 10.

Your game fish comment is bogus. Trout and salmon numbers have been steady as well as the size.

T-SHIRTS http://peoriacarphunters.spreadshirt.com/ http://www.peoriacarphunters.com/Home_Page.html Asian Carp have overrun the Illinois River in Peoria. Zac and Nate, water skiing CARP HUNTERS with swords and a wolverine claw, take matters into their own hands. We fabricate weapons, a "shredder suit", and a methodology for killing Asian Carp, Silver Carp, Jumping Carp, Flying Carp. Have you ever seen anyone water skiing with a samurai sword? The Carp Hunters are vehemently opposed to the Asian Carp, Flying Carp, Silver Carp, Bighead Carp, Jumping Carp's progression up the Illinois River which will inevitably end up in the Great Lakes. Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, and Lake Erie. As we were Bow-hunting one day on the Illinois River we decided that it would be way more intense to waterski behind the boat with a shredder suit and a samurai sword in order to kill these uninvited Asian Carp, Flying Carp, Silver Carp, Bighead Carp, and Jumping Carp. This video is the first in a series to show our story. We care greatly about preserving our natural ecosystem in the Illinois River. Since we can't Bass fish anymore we have taken on this burden. Bow Hunting aside, we have created a new way of fishing. Please enjoy the CARP HUNTERS. They can be good if a little difficult to prepare with their bones. There is no market for anything called "carp" in the u.s. though. They need to be renamed to chilean red river flounder.

"Israel has been a big destination for U.S. Asian carp where they are turned into Gefilte fish patties. But in December, Israel started levying a tariff on U.S. Asian carp, all but shutting down that market."

The fuck? maybe we could take a billion of the ridiculous amounts of military funding we give them and put it towards the carp problem instead then.

Oddly enough now it makes sense. For some reason we are keeping a species that can kill sport fishing in the Great Lakes, US rivers and probably many inland lakes because there is a few million to be made by shipping Gefilte fish to Israel. God forbid we affect the export of a food product to another country, especially Israel.

But now it appears they must have their own Asian Carp fisheries started to address their domestic use so why not use this move to shutdown all Asian Carp fish farm operations in the US.

Well I did some research on this in 2008 and the article I read stated game fish were half the size as in the 80's. Maybe the article was wrong.
