Do Harris and Payne stick around for next season?

  • Both getting lots of pro hype. Next year could be rough if they go.

It just depends on how they finish the season. If they continue to play at this level then both could go in the first round. If they come down a bit, they probably would stay as they wouldn't be first rounders.

EDIT: For perspective, if the season ended today, Harris is looking like a mid first rounder and Payne is a fringe first rounder.

  • As far as I know they don't have kids....So hopefully they stay.

who has them rated to go in those areas of the draft?

  • Matt Millen is advising several NFL teams to take Payne in the first round of the NFL draft and play him at receiver.

This. Harris' hype is largely coming from one guy, Chad Ford. Haven't seen Payne in the first round anyplace. Just planning to enjoy this team.

Screw that. I am freaking about 2019.

  • Rough? How many "rough" years do we have under Izzo? Dawson, Payne, and Harris could leave and we would still find a way to be solid.

This. The tournaments, in particular the NCAA, are HUGE opportunities for players to raise their NBA draft stocks.

However, I personally hope they stick around. Costello I think will help offset the loss of Nix, but losing Payne too will hurt. Losing Harris AND Kearney this season would sting too. Kearney's loss wasn't painful to start the season, and Valentine has helped compensate, but when Trice was out and Byrd was on the court, Kearney could have helped us there with his defense and ball-handling.

I'm really impressed with Payne this season though. I love watching him hit those longer jumpers consistently and have him take it to the basket when he's not in the pain. It's amazing to watch that big man move.

Is it just the big board? I would think team needs play a role as well. I still dont think either one should leave unless they are a no brainer top 10 pick at least. Payne is a bit different than Harris but I still think he could grow next year. IMHO they would develop better here than a year coming off the bench in the NBA due to how we actually do develop players. Harris would seem to be a 3 yr tops guy for us. ( Thinking 2)

Depends on who we have coming in... That is not a particularly pleasing line up to have with them gone, You have Appling... and who else? Costello/Kaminski/Guana as your bigs with Appling/Trice/Valentine/Byrd as the Guards/Forwards. Is solid middle of the pack B10?

B1G will look a lot different next year. MSU is hardly the only team facing possible early entry defections.

  • Maybe!

    Slippery People

  • MSU's luck: Payne, Harris gone.

UM's luck: Burke, Hardaway, GR3 stay.

    LuciousAllen

  • These threads are stupid. Payne has said multiple times getting a degree is monumental to him and Rico Beard said a few weeks ago Harris is 95% coming back.

    The_Dude

  • They both stay. They both have more to gain by staying than by leaving. Both can be top 10 picks in the 2014 NBA draft. Harris comes from a good family, I don't think money is that pressing to him, his mother played pro ball and will be able to give him great advice. As for Payne, with what he's been through academically, his degree must be very important to him.

    Both are staying.

    Johnny2x2x

  • I feel pretty confident Payne and Harris stay. Payne wants the degree and Harris is still really young and just doesn't seem like a one and done type of kid. If Dawson were having a better year I could definitely see him leaving but I think he'll be pretty much forced to come back

I think Harris stays unless we at least make it to a final 4..

I think Payne most likely goes though he could become a dominant player with one more year.

Burke is gone, Hardaway i'd guess is 75% gone, I'm not sure GR3 is going to have the ability to leave early.

    Jfaspen

  • my 2 cents.

payne should leave MSU, he is def ready, playing great ball all the way around.

harris can go pro if he wants to be on a NBA roster instead of a college roster next year. its his choice, i wont blame harris if he goes, but hope he stays at MSU one more year.

dawsen is going to def take a look at the NBA. i dont expect him to leave school, but it wouldnt surprise me if he did leave.

He has looked like total dog shit the last 2 games. And can't shoot at all. He needs the full summer of work on his J.

If he were 6'9" yes... but he isn't, there are a thousand 6'6" specimens in the NBA. He will go after next year if he learns how to pull his head out of his ass in half-court D and shoot the ball a little.
