Do Harris and Payne stick around for next season?

I disagree. KG does not have the mobility and speed of Payne. Payne is more athletic but not nearly as strong. Sheed was never as athletic as Payne either.

    Agree.

And Chris Paul is like a poor man's Keith Appling.

KG is one of the best defensive 4s to ever play the game. His mobility was one of his greatest strengths, as he could really guard 3-5.

  • I think Payne could absolutely benefit from coming back next year. He has made so much improvement this year with his shot, if he could have that same improvement with post moves, watch out. I don't think his success depends on having nix drawing double teams down low. I think Izzo will draw up plays to get him 3 pt shots. I also think he will get his attempts on being a trailer on fast breaks (think draymond green). I love paynes game, but he still looks a bit out of control at times. If he could smooth it out and develop post moves (he already has a decent hook) he could be an absolute force.

I honestly see him more comparable to Channing Frye at Arizona. He averaged 16 and 7 his senior year. He had an inside outside game as well. Drafted 8 overall. Didn't become a 3pt assassin til the pros. If Payne could follow in that mold he would have a real successful career

How fucking stupid are people? Honestly.

Nobody is saying he'll be 1999 Rasheed Wallace or "The Big Ticket"... They are talking about a stylistic comparison and guys with similar skill sets and weaknesses.

I think Bell is similar to Bettis in style. Does that mean I think he'll be a fringe NFL HOF'er? No. But he has amazing feet, power, good vision, and a lack of top end in a similar package...

Garnett, Payne, Rasheed are all 6'11" ish string beans that have insane length, can/could shoot like few other bigs, were great shot blockers, had good handles for a big, and could run like gazelles in their primes. Would you prefer I compare him to some dipshit with a million dollar body and a 10 cent brain like Stromile Swift, Hakim Warrick or something?

I'd prefer if you'd just stop making comparisons. The Le'veon Bell to Jerome Bettis is yet another moronic one. They are completely different runners. Just as idiotic as the people comparing Trey Burke to Magic Johnson.

Its unfortunate that the comparisions aren't realistic since Payne only has the 25 minute capacity lungs.

Whens the last time you watched an MSU game? He's played at least 25 minutes the last 10 games. He's played over 30 minutes 7 out of the last 10 games.

Would the lung capacity issue be a huge deal for him at that level? AP is probably a backup 4. Is he going to need to play 25+ minutes as a backup 4?

    Anyone. Anyplace. Anytime.

You should really stick to hopping on your soapbox and then jumping on your moral high horse.

This is as stupid a hoops post as I can recall on here, ever. You must have had too many wine coolers today. My God, man. No. .....

Probably not, but it could hurt his draft stock a little. However, I think he has greatly improved his conditioning this year.

I will assume your sarcasm meter was out of order. And yet, his lung issue would be a factor when comparing him to Garnett(twitch).......which is why I posted.

  • I don't think either should go unless they are considered to be "lottery" picks.. as otherwise they are better off learning in college under izzo than they would do sitting on an NBA bench...

especially Payne with the leaps and bounds he has made academically, I'd love to see him get his degree before leaving......

if we are comparing Payne's game to anyone at the moment, I am surprised Kevin Love's name hasn't been mentioned..... stretch 4... great rebounder can play both inside and getting better with the long range shot

Frye is an excellent comparison. I think Payne may be slightly more physically gifted and slightly less polished than Frye was. Best comparison yet though.

Next year: Costello 6'9" / 240# Soph, Kaminski 6'8" 240# RS FR and Valentine 6'5" 220# Soph who can play the 3 at that size are good insurance.

    GRR Spartan

  • My gut feeling is that both come back. I think getting a degree is very important to Payne. Money talks, but with his background story I think he stays.

Mr. Schilling was at the game today, Twitter seems to indicate he was in the locker room with the team after the game as well.

If Payne and Harris leave, make no mistake, next year would be rough. Not rough by normal standards, but very rough by ours. Middle big-ten.

Did you see how sweet Byrdmans stroke was on those 4 free throws he hit? I have confidence in him being the future of MSU.

I could care less about preseason rankings, but that starting lineup would be among the best bets for the NCAA title for sure, especially if Dawson takes a junior leap (think Payne "getting it" just before BT play this year).

Plus Valentine, Trice, Gauna off bench .... w/ a very serviceable Gauna plus a refreshed Byrd and a new face in Kaminski.... I'm drooling....
