Do Harris and Payne stick around for next season?

  • Did anyone else notice how Izzo had Payne taken off the court immediately after Nix? The announcer did a similar calling of his name. May just be a coincidence. I'm hoping Payne comes back for his Senior year -- which is what Tim Duncan did to become the top pick. If Payne can work on his midrange game with no shoulder injuries this summer, he'll move up into lottery land. My guess is he goes to draft camps, but does not hire an agent.

  • I didn't read all 6 pages, but if you aren't talked about as a lottery pick, it is dumb to go pro, since only 1st rounders get guaranteed money. If you aren't thought to go high, it makes no sense. They may project you to go the bottom of the 1st round and you slip to the 2nd for some reason, then you might be f'ed. Not every 2nd rounder can pull a Day Day and get a pro contract.

Talk about a completely ignorant opinion. Harris is likely to stay barring him going absolutely nuts in the tourney and MSU wining the whole thing. Payne has stated MULTIPLE times that he wasnts to come back and get his degree, that it's very important to him. Would be utterly surprised if he went.

Burke isn't as much of a lock to go pro as you think. He's probably gone, but not 100%. Hardaway is tougher. He is 50/50 going pro at best, and Id guess hes leaning towards coming back.

The thought of GRIII going pro right now is more laughable than Dawson going pro.

This. With the exception that I think Burke is gone. He has NBA written all over him. Can do it all except D so he will fit right in.

Adreian Payne made his case for being a 1st round pick today. Big game against NBA caliber athletes. 14 pts, 10 rebs, 5 blks, 3 steals.

Finally had a Top 10 pick playing like a Top 10 pick. Great game for MSU's Gary Harris. 23 pts, 4-7 from 3

    Updated 3/16

    13. Robinson III
    15. Burke
    23. Hardaway
    39. Payne

Obviously this can change a lot but I would be shocked if Robinson, Burke, and Hardaway didn't leave.

  • Payne must have small hands, he seems to lose control of the ball a lot when going for a dunk and has such a beautiful stroke. Not sure how it will affect his draft status but hope he comes back. MSU would definitely be in the mix for NC next year if he does,

  • Gavin Schilling says Harris is staying, Payne is thinking about it.

Yeah I'm not sure which players fall into that category.

  • I love Izzo working in a subtle comment in favor of Payne staying in the presser: "AP needs another 10 pounds and some more muscle" biggrin

I believe you are right on here bigwali: it helps him big time when shooting the ball, but conversely it doesn't help him at all around the rim when trying to power the ball up and in. HE's a surefire lottery pick if he stays, if not.....dunno. He has to look NO farther than Burke last year for a good comparison. TB was on the brink but stayed and his draft stock is now lottery worthy (or close to it) AP should stay and I mean that emphatically.........as msufan98 just posted above: Izzo also accurately points out he needs to fill out as well. His athleticism is great for his size BUT it's rugged as hell in the association....a true man's game. Mannie could help him bulk up a little because he's going to need it.

  • They both stay. Payne and Harris are kids who know what another year could do for them. They could be lottery picks if the develop a bit more.

bang....Gary just needs to mature a LITTLE bit more, especially with regard to taking guys off the dribbble: god knows there isn't anything wrong with his shot. When he improves off the dribble.....lord have mercy.

  • God I hope our guys stay. Not looking past this year but next year could be special. Indiana loses Oladipo and Zeller. Hopefully UM loses Burke and one or two others. The B1G will be good but nowhere near this year.

If our guys return (and others teams lose a few) we would have to be the conference favorite and a pre-season top 5.

So what? Payne dominated athletes because he is a player.

Yeah that's what I think too. He's not Trey Burke this year but he will dominate next year. Payne needs weight and a back to the basket game. They both do that and we could have a few first round picks.

  • They both stay. It's obvious they will both be lottery picks in 14 if they stay. Both examples of players who have more to gain by staying than leaving. Payne could be an AA next year.
