Interesting scenarios in the comments. If the Rose Bowl (Big Ten/Pac 12) were to go up head-to-head with the SEC/Big 12 Bowl game, which would be the bigger draw?

I'm going with the Rose Bowl here. Established brand name, NYD tradition for a century, B1G and Pac-12 alumni actually have electricity so they can watch TV.

Especially since year one of the playoff era will be the 100th Rose Bowl Game. That is going to be a huge deal.

I say it completely depends on the Matchups.

Like someone stated in a different thread, if the new game was in place last year, it would've been Arkansas vs. KState. Put that up against Wisconsin vs. Oregon, RB gets the draw. Auburn v. Oklahoma would get higher ratings than MSU vs. Stanford, etc.

I'm sure that I will get downvoted and attacked for this, but I wish you wouldn't use the word "retard" in this context. I only say this because I used to use it as an insult and later realized how offensive it is. I'm not attacking you and I don't think that you meant anything by it (and many others use it, too, but there are better words to use.

  • There are some things you just can't manufacture. The RB will always be the Grandaddy. The tradition of the whole game can't be matched. The Parade of Roses, etc.

Nope, just closer to the mindset of PSU fans circa 2010 then they realize or would ever admit.

  • SEC fans don't have the sense of tradition or things "outside the lines" that B1G fans usually come to appreciate. They do have their own traditions and pageantry, but not to the extent that the B1G does. That's probably the reason they think this is a huge deal.

Yeah, I get that. I figured that the response would be "calm down, it's just a message board." People don't call people "n*****s" or "homos" or "queers" on here because they know it's wrong. It doesn't matter if on the internet or not. If you want to use "it's supposed to be offensive" as an excuse, then fine.

I'm not attacking the OP. This is more of a general PSA. I used to say "don't be retarded" or "quit being a retard, too." But a couple of years ago I saw a program with John C. McGinley from Scrubs and he talked about how he used to use the term, too, because he thought that it wasn't hurting anyone and he thought it would be funny. He began working with disabled children and he talked about how they were watching a TV program and someone (a comedian, I believe), used "retards" as the butt of a joke and he said that seeing how upset these disabled kids were had a profound effect. He said that it occurred to him that what the person was really saying was "Haha, look at/listen to those idiots! They're just like YOU" (referring to those kids) and he has since started a campaign to stop people from using the term. Regardless of what people mean when they say it, it's what they actually say.

I expected the response you gave because calling people out for using this term isn't popular. Like I said, I used to use the term as a joke, too, and I'm not accusing people on here of being bigots, but if I hadn't seen this program, I probably wouldn't have stopped. People think that pretty much anything goes on tRCMB, but I don't believe that anybody would use the n-word (even if they could). You can say that people are allowed to be offensive on the internet, but people will probably use it in the real-world, too, until somebody says something. This isn't being overly-sensitive. If "n*****s" and "homos" aren't acceptable as the butt of jokes, then "retards" shouldn't be, either. If I didn't hear anybody say anything about this, I probably wouldn't have stopped, either.
