Do we have the best defense in the Big Ten this year?

Do you honestly think um had a better d than msu? I assume you saw both teams in action, which one looked better to you? Not knocking um, that had a good year, but the two were at different levels

Better, no. Both teams had very good defenses last year.

Interesting thing, according to Rivals, MSU's defense last year had a higher per players star rating than Michigan's D.

  • I am concerned about the loss of Worthy. Let's face it, he was a force. His loss could be huge. The tans could put a lot of pressure on the qb because he was so quick off the snap. He caused havoc in the backfield, don't know if his replacement has the same ability.

Keeping the sunshiners in check since 2000.

But I tend to think you should be better on defense returning 9/11 starters as long as the two you lose aren't literally Lawrence Taylor and Jevon Kearse

Agreed, but we also had a RS Frosh starting at DE, true sophs at MLB, SS, CB, and DE plus a RS Soph at OLB.

Now we lose 3 players (Pickelman, Robinson, Worthy), out of which two will be replaced by superior athletes. On top of that, we will now have Norman, Adams, White and Hoover as seniors on this defense with Bullough as another leader.

This does not at all include the impact of our 2011 class. There are some freak athletes there that will make a Rush-like impact.

  • Unless you're comparing two teams' stats played against identical schedule, no one can conclude with any validity that one defense is better than the other. UM's defense was far from bad in 2011, but their comparatively easier schedule certainly helped. In the head-to-head matchup...the UM defense looked average, even with the benefit of resting while the offense had several referee-extended drives.

On a side note, UM should be more concerned with their offense against MSU's defense. In the last four games, all played with September Heisman quarterbacks, they've scored 21, 20, 17 and 14 against MSU.

    I like that trend.
