I start a new job on Monday. Early indications suggest it will be brutally awesome, for awhile at least. After four years, my current job started to blow hard. A change was needed, and for various reasons, i'm thrilled that the change happened within my current company.

I have a pretty good gig that I generally enjoy. Great deal of variety, autonomy, and authority. Politics are tolerable and the pay is good. I need to like it....hope to do it for another 15 years.

No. My job sucks, well, the work sucks. The hours aren't bad. My boss leaves me alone and my co-workers are a pretty good bunch. But the work just blows.
I had an interview yesterday and a couple other leads, so hopefully it won't be too much longer. I've been there a year, long enough that it doesn't look like I'm a job hopper on my resume.

I love my job.
I was convinced that living in a huge city and working here would be misery.
But, I had no idea how great it would be to walk to work, have incredibly professional and competent colleagues and wickedly smart leadership.

I'm in Telecom with a huge corporation. Opportunities to change jobs as my family's needs change. Typical Gen X with no loyalty at all to my employer.

For those of you who hate/dislike your jobs, how hard would it be to change careers?
I did it. It took a lot of work and a substantial financial investment, but it was worth it, big time.
For those of you young enough to make a change, do it, ASAP. If you hate your job now, just think of how bad it will be in 10, 20, 30 years...

Loyalty is a two way street and I do not put much stock in my company's loyalty to me. The only problem with this math is that I will likely not stay anywhere long enough to get a pension.

My employer ruined the last position I had. Laid off a third of our staff in my group and changed the job description to 75% travel. I volunteered to have my position relocated to another market and switched jobs 3 months later.
