Does Ken Holland pull the plug on Mike Babcock sooner or later

  • After a 5-0 start the Red Wings have lost 6 in a row with very little goal production.

Maybe the team needs to hear a different voice or is it the new coaching staff as a group aren't getting the changes needed for more goal production?

Another 2 weeks of losing and only have 2,1 or 0 gaols per game is going to force a change.

This confirms it: you are an idiot

UM, Green Bay and Chicago teams all have one thing in common: They all suck

Aren't you the same guy that was defending Roushar but yet wants to get rid of one of the best coaches in the NHL?

This. Mike Babcock is one of the best, if not the best, coach in the game right now. Who would the Wings even replace him with?

    GMSparty12

  • Babcock? no.

    Hudler, Cleary, Bertuzzi, Holmstrom? yeah.

  • With the exception of Bowman 1993-2002, the Red Wings have had Demers 5 years, Murray 3 years then Bowman followed by Dave Lewis for 3 years and now Babcock who is starting his 7th year.

This isn't a first year coach or a guy with a team full of rookies playing for a tight fisted owner.

Babcock has 2 first year assistants with him on the bench and perhaps thats part of the current issue. In case you missed it it hasn't been 2 weeks yet but this is the NHL and Babcock has been there longer than anyone except Bowman.

    Again
Another 2 weeks of losing and only have 2,1 or 0 goals per game is going to force a change.

I hope things turn around but after the fast start its surprising the puck is going into the net so few times. The defense seems to be there but the offense is MIA.

Sorry everyone, some how GRR got out off his Wells Hall leash and wondered off into Red Cedar. Go on, go home boy, go where your irrational comments are tolerated. Bobby Sak is waiting for you.loco

Well I guess Babcock needs to start to forecheck and shoot better or he gone. Great thread.

God would I love to see GRR answer that question. Never will happen though.

    Stang

  • no need for a doofus like stang to apologize.

If I'm wrong I'll post that in 30 and 60 days . Just admit I was looking too far ahead.

If a change is made I won't expect any critics to own up any posts here. After all its the RCMB.

  • Look, why does no one have the balls to say that Babcock MAY have lost this team going back to last year? There were rumblings about this last spring.

Mikey is an amazing coach, but maybe hes not an amazing coach for us anymore. Scream away.

I think Dan Roushar would make a hell of a replacement. He'd fix that offense pretty quickly.

Its the different voice theory. Coaching pro's is much different than coaching in college. After 7 years plus 2 NHL rookie assistants its possible the team is beginning to tune Babcock adn/or his 2 new assistants out.

Bowman didn't lose the Red Wings because he always kept them on edge and he had learned from his stops in Montreal and St. Louis.

The Red Wings aren't the first team to hit a goal drought but I don't know why many of you think Ken Holland will stand pat if the team continues to be in the doldrums. Its the NHL. Just like the NBA, they don't fire the team. Just like the NBA, when things go south the teams in the NHL pull the trigger faster than they do in MLB or NFL.

    GRR Spartan

  • Considering they have about $7m in cap space right now I don't think the coach is the issue. Holland is a bargain shopper. Give him some time & he'll find the right deal.

    Inglewood Jack

  • We need a fired up veteran a la Draper/Maltby...I'm looking at you Nick, I know you're polite and softspoken, but as the captain, time to light some fires under some asses.

After 7 years you would want to fire a guy after a bad 6 game stretch that MIGHT
tirn into a bad 12 game stretch in 2 weeks? Way to overreact.

Hypothetically speaking, if they're something like 10-31 halfway through the season they might start considering it, but I doubt they would do it. The guy has proven to be an excellent coach here, that gets him some leeway. If at some point they feel like they need to make a change it'll be in the offseason when they can get a good replacement.
