  • I get rid of Holland before Babcock. Look at the roster and just view the abortion Holland has created.

Holland is a caretaker. He got really really really lucky to be gm of teams that Bowman oversaw. The wings are such a mess right now and it all falls at Hollands feet tbh. We better hope the next Datsyuk and Zetterberg are in the system or the wings could languish in mediocrity for a long time.

Detroit was fighting for the President's Trophy late in the season until they had one of the most incredible rashes of injuries I have seen in the history of sports.

none of those players were the difference b/w winning vs NSH. Unless a healthy Datsyuk goes off. That Franzen contract looks wrse every year.

Or unless you're saying with the 1 seed Detroit can beat the 8th seed. This years playoffs were a repeat of the SJ ones. Bigger, faster, stronger, younger team beats the old team.

And I would 10 out of 10 times rather traded our 1st for Gaustad than Quincey.

You're right, Helm, Lidstrom, Cleary, and Datsyuk all playing at 100% wouldn't make a difference.

Helm is a great energy player. Dont think he will win you a series.

Lidstrom is still a good dman, but he has lost several steps.

    Datsyuk I mentioned.

Cleary is not a pf. The type of player we need to win these series. That and physical dmen.

It appears to me the game has evolved and may have passed Ken by. He can prove me wrong this offseason but if the past is any predictor of the future...

Bump him upstairs to a presidents role and bring Yzerman back....And I forgot to mention in previous post Downie was available. What this team needs.

If the past is a predictor of the future he will tweak the roster and win another Stanley Cup?

  • I think the RW's are past tweaks. They need the next Z and Dats to step up and support Z and Dats.

Last time he made tweaks Lidstom was mid 30's and Z and Dats were mid 20's.

Really good analysis on the Wings here from all places a Sharks blogger.

  • Watching the Yotes handle the Preds and put up 5 on Rinne tells me the Wings have a lot of work to do. They need at least 3 more guys with Helm like speed and muscle in the corners. Defense will have to replace Lidstrom and Stuart most likely and need some beef and a defensive scoring threat like Suter. Hollands has his work cut our for him this off season.

I don't know if you can really blame Babcock right now due to the state of the Wings roster. What "good" moves has Holland made since Hossa basically gifted himself to us? If there needs to be a change, I believe it should more likely be at the general manager spot and less at head coach.

Also, it was only one game (I hope).

I'm not blaming Babcock. This whole season is going to be a mess for a lot of teams. Many players needing to "mesh" in a short period of time after nearly half of the regular NHL season playing on other teams.

The Red Wings didn't look sharp. I wonder if Holland, the coaches and players even expected a season after Christmas came and went.

  • To be fair, many folks have the Blues in the Stanley Cup Finals. It's going to be a rough season for the Wings because the Central has gotten better overall.

lol Not sure why you still think the home win streak is a bad thing which should be associated with playoff failure.

my GOD they shredded us....I don't ever remember st. louis looking so damn good: EVER. Big, strong, fast, confident. We were absolutely destroyed. Pretty damn discouraging honestly.

.......THE biggest issue I have with the wings hasn't changed the last 5 years: they are too damn small, especially on the blue line. No physicality either.....all those low drafts the last 20 yrs might be catching up, sure hope not. As someone said: it IS only 1 game but......what a bad game it was..

First game with no preseason and limited practice time. In a game where timing, and familiarity are important, it's going to take a few games for teams with a lot of skill players to completely gel.

  • We're going to be pretty bad for a little bit. So many new guys in the lineup and they had what, 6 days to get ready and figure each other out? It's going to take some time and patience to be a wings fan this year. They'll be good by the end of the year though.
