Drake Harris: 'I Fit Somewhere Else'

  • yawn... I'm over this kid like yesterday, lets focus on other kids that are in the mix... Watkins, Snodgrass, Booth, etc.!! Plenty of fish in the sea...

  • This confuses me since I've heard he has been a long time MSU fan. I hope he's not chasing what he feels is 'a sure thing' instead of just following his heart. If he does finds the right place in his heart, more power to him. If not, I hope he knows that sure things are not always sure things. He's only an injury away from having to live at the school he picks without football.

Some of you may not like his answers, but thank you to Jack E. for asking some good questions. +1

  • I'm not one to live or die over the decisions of pimply faced 17 year old kids. But I found his comments really disappointing. If he wants to change his mind great, but there's no need to run down our football program as apparently second rate to those he's now considering. Good luck to him, but I hope the transcript of his comments is posted in the weight room, locker room, and everywhere else as motivation for the kids who understand what it means to be a Spartan.

  • Should have never had his June "announcement" about his dual commitment.

If Drake Harris was impressed with the recruiting presentation and talk of National Championships in Ann Arbor just wait until he visits Tuscaloosa. Drake Harris will be talking to a HC who has won 3 of the last 4 National Championships.

Sounds like your typical "I'm entitled to anything I want" little 17 year old. Nothing to see here folks.

  • His comments about MSU sound like he just spent a couple weekends in Ann Arbor and now that he has decommitted he couldnt help himself but start talking about "better programs". What a douche.

  • Scum fans probably do not want him anymore due to the fact he refered to Ohio State as Ohio State rather than Ohio.

    Charlie Kelly

  • Eh, if he doesn't want to be here, we're better off without him.

It does however sound like he's bought the line of crap fed to him by the scummies or Urban. IF he stays in the B1G, he's going to be used as bulletin board material every time he plays against us.

You know thats all that has been pumped into his head since Urban left is HS and he opened recruitment... he was laughed at and told that MSU football was way below him... If thats the way so be it.. i hope Damion Terry and boys run us to big things.... If he wants National Titles UofM, Florida, and Florida St aren't getting him one any sooner then we would.

You know, I don't follow recruiting, too old. However, reading that article, I'm uncomfortable about that young man. I don't know what it was. First extensive reading I've done on him, and Jack asked great questions. He's the guy, who "Love's MSU basketball and Tom Izzo" and "Loves U of M football" Step back and think about that. I won't write about this kid anymore, but if he was going to play basketball it was MSU. Football now possibly U of M. Football only, U of M. Now he says things like NC possibility etc.

I ask you, have you ever met somebody who is an MSU basketball fan and a U of M football fan? What do you think of them? Seriously. Anyway, my thoughts are always a kid should never commit his junior year. Things like this happen and kids change their mind. He's going to go to U of M, but our defensive backs and Dantonio and Narduzzi should handle anything that U of M can throw at us. We'll be fine. I just thought that after i read that article, I felt uncomfortable about the kid. He's not a Spartan, I don't know that I'm "happy" about that, but damn, I just don't care.

I don't follow this stuff that closely either. I have a hunch he'll end up at Alabama, or maybe OSU. At least the kid was honest in this interview, about the reasons for his decision. He could have blown a bunch of smoke to make us feel good about MSU, but he told the truth in his eyes. If you want to win a NC in FB then you go to a school like Bama with a recent track record.

There is now zero reason to think that Drake Harris will end up at State. It sounds to me like he never got close to the football coaches. Izzo yes, but not Dantonio. As far as Michigan goes, I was a fan of both schools myself until my Junior year in HS, then it was all State. So, I don't really hold that against him. Good luck Drake. I will not talk about him anymore.

    Its five o'clock somewhere.

    GreenMonet

  • Obviously this guy is very full of himself and is very impressionable but where are his parents and where is the coach who called MSU? Common sense would suggest a very simple game plan going forward. An immature loose cannon is what his behavior suggests. He will start his career with literally 100,000's of people with a negative view of his character. His decommittment is something we would all pretty much get over if it was handled in the right way but his words and their implied insult will burn forever.

    Beastial

  • Good luck Drake, but you're just a boy. What you do really has no effect on my life or little effect on my Spartans.

At least it was a very early commit & de-commit. You have to appreciate that.

  • The NC talk out of the scuM recruits cracks me up. I can understand a bama, lsu, USC recruit talking about wanting to win a NC as a reason he signed with that school but for scuM recruits to be spouting that off???

Their superstar qb hasn't won a state title has he even won the catholic league? Our incoming stud QB actually lived up to his billing and more -just won a state title. At least he delivered rather than talk about it.

Half a title and Chubby can lay the claim that he has that and mattison does have the one from Fl that he got due to Urban Meyer. So do both our HC and OC. Both were coordinators at OSU and won a title. Just funny that the scuM coaches can sell that when they really have not accomplished all that much at scuM to show they are going to win one in the near future. Give them credit for the sales pitch though.

  • I think a lot of other people have hit the nail on the head. If a kid wants to go somewhere else, fine. I wasn't the most mature person at 17 and although my parents would have been extremely disappointed in me for backing out of a stated commitment they would have also been the first ones to support me if they knew that the decision was well thought out and that I felt I had truly made a mistake.

What would not have happened, and what I think most people are pissed about, was that he shat on the school he was decommitting from for no particular reason and did not even have the balls to inform the coaches himself. That level of disrespect and cowardice has nothing to do with age and everything to do with a general lack of moral character.

read the Freep this morning and it pissed me off enough to check in here to see what the deal was ... It's to bad that he decided not to be a Spartan, although disappointing, it no big deal ... but it's really annoying that he took shots at a school and a staff that I'm certain bent over backwards to show him respect and attention.

If I'm a guy like Cox and have lined up in my sights then I plant him in the ground with a simple "big enough for you" comment.

  • Cruising around other sites, one poster who seems to have pretty good info thinks that he is Bama bound and Saban was the one who told him he was "special" and just concentrate on football and winning NCs. Most of us believed this recruitment was over then and once Urbs paid a visit. It is the scUMers who are gonna take the hard fall as they are currently pissing themselves thinking they are getting Drale after multiple recent visits. Newsflash, the kid was there for the free tickets. The slurping for two weekends in a row was just icing on the cake.

  • Honestly, I think Drake Harris doesn't realize that his shit really does stink. Lets be honest here; He plays football in West Michigan. He plays against teams I would have started for in high school. Teams I played against in high school. I made several players look awesome. Hell, I made the highlight reels on WoodTV a few times for the wrong reasons.

The kid has great stats and great size at the position; However, I do not believe he has any reason to feel he is "better" than MSU. Send his ass to one MSU practice and let him see where he currently stacks up against one of the best defenses in the country. Let him see how much more refined he is vs some scrub like Burbridge.

Bad take. I'm not from the west side of the state but if you get a scholarship offer from Alabama, you can play - no doubt about it.

No need to degrade the kid's athletic ability. If you want to question his judgment or lack thereof, go to town.
