Droid Razr w/ Google Voice actions vs. iPhone 4S w/SIRI

  • The best feature of the 4S gets hammered. lol

    Play

DROID RAZR with Voice Actions for Android ...

Which performs better, Google Voice Commands on a DROID RAZR by Motorola or Siri on the iPhone 4S?

  • If it's like the rest of Android phones, no matter how well it works it's not integrated into the phone the way Siri is. That's the biggest plus to Siri, along with the ability to understand commands without specific keywords. It isn't perfect, but my poorly named "voice search" is much worse. It might work better on new phones than mine does, but are people using it?

  • I have neither phone, but from that video all I can tell is the droid is one second faster at completing the same tasks and is barely thinner (but longer).

  • I just bought the Droid Razr. I have nothing to add to this thread, but I'm posting so I can remind myself to watch this video when I'm not at work. Good day, gentlemen.

  • as a long time hater of all things apple but recent 4s buyer i have to say that siri is a cute little novelty that works well but i don't find myself using her, i mean it, very much at all.

  • I can do just about anything I need with the built in voice search commands in Android.

But for either platform, for a true digital assistant, it should be a service running in the background, waiting to hear a configurable word or phrase.

Nexus, dial Bob. Nexus wakes it up and dial bob is the command. I still don't like how you have to press something to activate it.

You'd be activating voice functions too much any conversation. I had a voice dialing function that was always starting up. I'd much rather touch activate it.

It was just a mistake; I didn't mean to let them take away my soul. Am I too old? Is it too late?

This is the main reason I think Siri wins. Voice commands aren't anything special- my first LG flip phone did voice commands (granted it would get it right and then ask "did you say 'Trevor Barnes'" and then be completely unable to understand me when I said "yes.") It's the way you just pick up your phone and talk that makes Siri special. That's literally all Google would have to do to make it an equally important feature. It would also be nice to do without rigid keyword commands. Siri is more like talking to the computer in Star Trek. That's secondary though.

Vlingo for Android does this. You can turn the feature on and off, but it does have the option to 'always be listening' and respond to a 'wake-up and do this' command. That being said, I haven't used it much. I don't mind long-pressing the search key to initiate my voice command.

I will be honest, I've had this phone for almost two years and didn't know you could do that. That is kind of a big deal to me.

It's a good program and has worked well for me. And it's free. Heard something recently about Vlingo purchasing some of the Siri technology (sorry so vague on the details), so I think they're trying to move towards a more 'free speech' model as opposed to a limited list of commands.

  • The bottom line in all of this is that right now, technological parity has been achieved between Apple and Android device makers and the real winners in all of this are the consumers...because there is a fierce competition between the two to out-duel each other.
