Being the cheapass I usually am, I was not happy when we bought a Dyson.
Thing is quite the machine. No comparison to any other vacs I've ever used.
Chubby Spartan is the local Kirby Vacuum sales guy. He will be around the neighborhood before long.

In a lot of ways, Dyson reinvented what the vacuum could be just like Apple has done with mobile technology. Dyson's approach to innovation has lead to several interesting products, including the AirBlade hand dryer.

I've used both Dysons and non Dysons. With some new models, they are every bit as good as Dyson models for half the price or less. Hell, I picked up a $100 vacuum at Target (on sale for $75) and it has the same basic vacuum chamber design as the Dysons. It does the exact same job as the Dyson I've used.

I don't claim ownership of the cats. They are a debacle. I let her take them in because I didn't want to see them die in the cold. We both take ownership of the dog, but I'm the one who does all the work. Amazingly, a 120 lb dog is far less destructive and messy than two (formerly 3) 7 lb cats. In fact, the handheld vac is used primarily to clean up after the cats and in our cars.
