EBLING: Wood ... And Did

INDIANAPOLIS -- Senior Brandon Wood cemented his place in MSU lore with a game-high 21 points and helped ensure the Spartans were the last team standing Sunday in Indy.

  • It has really felt like a game like this was coming for Wood. He's been doing more with the minutes he's been given. I felt like he was really tentative in the Indiana game and it pissed him off that he was a bit lost. Since then, every time he's come in, he's looked for his shot before looking to pass. Seems like a great kid and I'm glad to see this development.

  • Really happy for Brandon. He has sacrificed being a primary scorer to settling into a secondary role alongside being a lockdown defender. Awesome to see him light up the scoreboard again, especially on such a big stage.

He actually played great against Ohio State last weekend as well.

  • Wood was THE difference in the game, especially when he went off when Day-Day went out. It could have got ugly and he didn't let it happen. Kid is a warrior.

    PassTheRock

  • Late in the second half after he had just hit a couple of threes he looked tentative about shooting another before passing it and Izzo immediately pulled him. When he got back to the bench Izzo screamed at him to "Shoot the fucking ball" and I think I saw a little smile on his face when he went to sit down. It was a pretty cool moment.

  • Wood has done a great job of fitting in, contributing in any way he could, not so easy as a one and done transfer... he has shown maturity and patience and it is great to see him getting some well deserved recognition.

Didn't I say "Since the Indiana game"? I thought I did.

  • Jack,
That's about as good of a read as it gets. What a game.

Yes you did. But you also 'felt like a game like this was coming for him' and I would say his last game against OSU was big as well. Perhaps I read in there that you suggested a difference.

  • Some amazing stats in there. 30 points against UNC when he was with Valpo. I did not know that. This season has gone by so fast...wish he could stick around another year.

  • Jack - fantastic read as always - assume you used Google for the hardest wood in the world reference.

Brandon has had such a wild ride for his college hoops career. Coming in this year is much like adopting a child into your family - you don't necessarily know what you are going to get from either side or how well the family will live together. For him to land in this family enivornment and not sulk when your coach rides you, tells of his maturity, but also his poise. You can see by his comments, he's still in awe of how its all come together.

Did he have a few let downs this year? Sure, so did all of us when faced with adversity. But he got up and played his heart out on this weekend for all to witness.

I might be wrong, but I think he was one of the first to tweet Dawson with a "wasnt no way we wasnt comin back wothout the championship for my bro". You think he doesn't care about his Spartan family?

Respect is earned through effort and action. For Brandon Wood, the adopted in adopted child just got dropped forever - he'll always be a Spartandawg

It's not what Izzo, Dantonio and Hollis are accomplishing, its the way they are accomplishing it
