    1. Totally understand. However, its going to cost $50 to $60 millionish to improve the East Side and that money has to come from somewhere. I would much prefer that the money came from donors ala Boone Pickens. However, lets not forget that OK State had to give Pickens naming rights to get the money out of him. Does it really matter that much if its called Dan Gilbert Field or Quicken Loans Stadium? Besides I think the cat is kinda out of the bag when it comes to naming rights. Obviously, nearly every pro stadium has a sponsor and college stadiums are increasingly moving in that direction. TCF Stadium, Value City Arena, T Boone Pickens Field, etc. are all recent examples. I just think that if we can get say a 10 year, $50 million sponsorship from a reputable, Michigan based company, its worth looking into. I mean, I want it to stay Spartan Stadium, but first and foremost I want the nicest place possible and I want to win. That said, if one of our Wealthy alums steps up all the better.

We should pursue Spartan Stores to sponsor. That way it can stay Spartan Stadium.

Yes but it isn't that plush of a stadium..locker rooms and meeting rooms? Yes. But it is the noise and fan participation that gets them the ratings..hence my question, is this poll about the crowd and tradition or the damned stadium itself?

BTW, Autzen's Scoreboard is far from impressive. Uncle Phil better step it up biggrin

In 6 years on tRCMB, I don't think I've heard a bad word about Kinnick from Spartan fans. Glad you enjoyed it.

Today, ESPN ranked Michigan Stadium the 6th best stadium. That's a bit of a shocker.

  • Regardless of the rankings, those videos are horrible. Was that host being held hostage when he made them?

Kinnick has the best feature in the Big Ten, if not all of College Football, the train that takes fans to the game. You got to admit that's cool.

Now, my wish list for Spartan Stadium...

    1. Naming rights. Hate to say it but its not a question of if, but when, so why not go for it now. If someone is willing to pay, take their money. By the way, Ok St had to give up a lot to Pickens for his money, he basically has veto power over the AD, which is a lot worse than naming rights.

    2. Chairs. Sorry but in 2012 bleachers just don't cut it. Go with chair backs in all sections except the student section (since students stand anyway). You will lose capacity, but you can take it out of the student sections which, sadly, rarely fill.

    3. Get rid off the gas station and car wash as part of a total East Side renovation.

    4. Improve all bathrooms and concessions. Hire a real concession company that has experience at NFL stadiums.

    5. Redo all interior and exterior signage and graphics so it is consistent and up to date. A little thing, but it is something I always notice.

    6. Build some sort of "main" entrance, preferably on the South End, that will have a trophy case, murals etc, move the Sparty Statue over there. I know they kind of did this on the West Side, but a lot of people, including the students, never get to see that.

We will find money for the upgrades to Spartan Stadium, ESPECIALLY if we keep winning. We have a $15 million addition coming next year.

Ohio Stadium is always going to be Ohio Stadium, Michigan Stadium is always going to be Michigan Stadium. Let Spartan Stadium be Spartan Stadium.

I'd rather it take 10 years to do every last renovation and be Spartan Stadium than 6 or 7 at Tuna Distribution Stadium

Is your schtick reading the first sentence and then replying, because if it is then your reply makes sense.

Within 10 years (or 10 years from the end of the current economic morass) Michigan Stadium, Ohio Stadium, Yankee Stadium, Fenway Park, and Wrigley Field will have new corporate names.

If there is money sitting there, you might as well take it.

The fake brick near the tunnels is pretty awful. Sitting in the first couple rows would suck. Other than that, Kinnick is solid.

I would absolutely sell the name of the stadium.

Would you rather have: A. The stadium be called Spartan Stadium

    OR

    B. Better assistant coaches, better football facilities, better basketball facilities, and better recruiting?

Not sure if serious...let me know and I'll respond.
