Elmer Has Silent Leader

MIDLAND, Mich. -- Spartan Tailgate was in the house to see Midland (Mich.) High OT Steven Elmer Friday, and caught up after the game for the latest with the MSU target.

  • Hmmm, not sure if this is good news for the good guys.

Valenti mentioned that an unnamed stud who was thought to be an MSU lean was actually leaning heavily towards ND, and that UM had suddenly gotten his attention.

If Elmer checks the depth charts and commitment lists (let alone the W/L column), we should be the obvious choice.

If he actually thinks MSU doesn't offer the academics that UM or ND does (as Valenti implied), he needs to do more research. We don't lead the B1G in Rhodes Scholars on a fluke.

Really dude? I think it's pretty clear that both those schools are superior in academics...

Well, we're screwed if it's general studies.

    The Rhodes Scholar committe disagrees.

ND requires all freshman to take Calculus, but other than that, it's basically a liberal arts school.

UM grads (non athletes) are also over 70% liberal arts grads. The "esteemed" programs like business or engineering account for 3% of students respectively.

Likewise, at MSU, if he wants an easy path, he can find it. He can also get an elite education, one that is so impressive, he could be a Rhodes Scholar (and MSU has led the B1G in that honor for decades).

Don't judge a school by high school GPAs, judge it on what grad programs and fellowships are seeking your students, that's the real measure of the education.

Or, maybe you think that the profs at UM or ND are able to teach Thoreau better than the ones at MSU...I tend to doubt it.

It's Reschke who has recently spouted off a ton about Notre Dame. That would hurt.

    Really? Fuck ND.

Agreed. This one hurts. Guess its better for MSU and UM to get the bad news early.

  • Maybe the kid wants a job after college??
Lets look at the facts of UM and MSU?
UM is one of 8 teams that would NOT have qualified for a bowl game last year based on the the new proposed academic requirements and the sad part is that EVERY SEC school qualified!!! Harbaugh was right UM 'sells out' to win at any cost- Obviously they don't care about the student athlete
MSU?? Better knows and JUCO "U"! They have more JUCO's than all SEC schools again very scary!! MSU graduates 55% of their football player and only 45% of their black football players and safe to say most of them don't major in Engineering!!
Tirade?? I am sure that Muschamps "tirade" yesterday will effect recruiting at Florida?? I am sure ESPN will cover that one!! I would rather have a coach that goes off on my son than ALLOWS one to NOT graduate like the MSU staff obviously encourages!!!

Care to include any facts in this tirade. How many JUCO's does MSU have. And more than the SEC no

How about Petrino at Arkansas housing all of their oversigned players at a JUCO like a farm team.
