Yesterday I was at Subway and ordered a Pizza Sub. Of course I got the obligatory "one napkin". I said I needed more for that sub. She begrudgingly grabbed a few more. I said, "I have a question for you, why does Subway only give one napkin and keep the rest behing the counter". Her answer: "Napkins are inventory and we just don't give away inventory". I said they are cheap compared to losing future customers and walked away.

You've got some stones. Did you not put your tray back on top of the waste receptacle as a further display of discontent?

  • well first off let me say that my roommates both have mac's and I would say the power cords are longer, or just as long as a pc power cord. but apple would definitely save more on the cords if they are really too short

  • You must be going to a very different Subway than what I'm used to. Subway is the fast food place that always gives me by far the most napkins. A huge surplus of napkins. More napkins than I could possibly need just for eating a sandwich. You could wipe up a murder scene with the amount of napkins they give out. And it's not just one Subway I regularly experience this in Eastwood Town Center, Okemos, International Center, you name it. Every Subway I've been to.

So with that said, I guess the answer must be #2.

  • Subway sells 4,147,200 sandwiches and salads each day, or 1,513,728,000 each year.
Assuming the company saves a penny on every sandwich by restricting napkins they would save $15,137,280 a year.

Apple will sell 56,200,000 iPads in 2012. If Apple saves $.10 on every iPad from shortening the cord they would save $5,620,000 Apple did sell 156,000,000 devices in 2011 so if you use those numbers they could potentially save $15,600,000.

And the correct response would have been "and that is why you work at Subway."

Seriously "you don't just give away inventory?"

Because... you know... otherwise its a profit center (its not) and you want to keep all those precious napkins on your balance sheet.

Can't you just see the see the balance sheet now for the corporation?

CASH and CASH EQUIVALENTS - $1.2 Billion
    Inventory - $3.2 Billion
    Napkins - $800 Million

She actually said it in a cunt fashion and it certainly deserved more of a "discussion" from my end. After a moment of pause, I decided that the limited amount of words that the good lord provided for me during my life time would be better uttered elsewhere.

    2. The amount of money Apple saves per year making their power cords 6-8 inches shorter than useful length.

The power cord for my macbook pro is pretty long. I've never had an issue with it.

Edit: Oh, I didn't realize you meant for an iPhone. Now I agree, but that issue isn't exclusive to Apple. The power cord for my droid is way too short and it annoys the hell out of me at times.

Difference is you can buy an inexpensive micro USB charger cord for your Droid. IPhones require Apple's stupid proprietary connector.

  • Maybe Subway could afford to give out more napkins if they didn't print a bunch of stupid shit on the side of each one of them.

"c" word really not necessary there.

I'm sick of having to ask for a sleeve and napkins from Tim Hortons everytime. They have to be Delmon Young's most hated franchise.

Sorry bout that. I did hesitate for a second before typing but sometimes that is the only descriptive word to make the point. But, just to lighten the mood, my wife calls it the "k" word. Dead serious and I never correct her cause I think it is cute.

Subway always gives me a fat stack of napkins. Taco Bell is stingy with napkins and hot sauce.

I'm not sure if you're being serious.

For me, Subway gives out maybe two napkins total, and Taco Bell gives like 8-10 sauce packets when I ask. Pretty much always do I throw away like half of the sauces they give.

To be honest, Subway is bright for limiting napkins. Napkins at any other restaurant are wasted, and the 2 that Subway gives is enough to get the job done. Maybe with a pizza sub they should give out 3-4, but that's definitely enough. Besides, probably 50% of Subway subs are taken back to work/home where you have access to as many paper towels and napkins as you wish.
